Happy New Week all.
dibnlib said:Met someone in the woods one day. She had the most beautiful dalmatian. She had a friend who was moving to a new house with new everything with it. Friend had decided she didn't want to keep the dog in her sparkling new house. I really can't remember if she was going to have the dog put to sleep or take it to a rescue home. Anyway the person I met was appalled and took the dog home. Needless to say she is no longer friends with the previous owner!!! Some people have the strangest priorities.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
What a shame, Heather. I am sorry. However, it does show chlldren perhaps just why things are not "right" at home. We have a relative who has to share her children with their father since the divorce, and now that the daughter is getting older (12 yrs old) she is beginning to see through Daddy and his ways - he has never paid a penny towards their upkeep, pleading poverty in the courts, but still manages to find enough money to keep the stool warm in the local pub most nights, and even to go abroad on holiday ...... Grrr.
Clare: the RSPCA quoted a case once, where the owner had turned the dog into the rescue centre because "It doesn't match my decor.....!"
dibnlib: She is very houseproud but also loves her animals: she used to have two dogs and a cat! The present dog is a Miniature Schnauzer and is only 18 months old. The cat is about 14.
Terrible tale of the train crash: why on earth don't they have a belt and braces system of safety on a single track line??
Children are much more perceptive than people think. I feel sorry for children who are saddled with parents like this - they get no choice at all.
Pics I think I've put on here before: My Friends Min.Schnauzer with Bonnie having a great time, in the garden:
Was a good day for gardening – sunshine but not too hot. OH decided we could test the potatoes, and found them very good, and of uniform size. He did remark that their soil is a bit dry, and I reminded him that I am forever telling him that water doesn’t always penetrate past leaves and some things need to be watered below the leaf canopy! We aren’t having them today, as we already planned pasta, but it’s good to know they are ready – first meal tomorrow. I was very careful; did a whole hour outside this morning, then had a half hour rest before a second hour; but despite pacing myself, since lunch have been in agony. He continued in the garden – still just general weeding and tidying, and spreading Hosta pots around as they are too close together for the humid weather; next thing is to do the same with Dahlia pots.
Rosy – pleased the rain held off for your Garden Party, and that you didn’t have to deal with “leftovers”. I remember cowslips in the meadows near the edge of woodland; some people have them in their gardens, but they don’t look quite right in that context!
AQ – that winter wind sounds nasty – do stay safe, both you and OH!
Clare – Good to know Willow got airborne today; he had been looking as if he wanted to, but was unsure quite how to get the take-off right. Neither of them apparently going far yet – a pair of “Mummy’s boys” – if so they will get quite a shock when EJ leaves! “Flowering Thingy” was actually an Osteospermum, just couldn’t remember it this morning; not the usual pastel shades, but a very deep red. It is actually having to recover from a ride in the scooter basket: we bought it before we went down to the lake at Belton, so it got as drenched as we did in the storm that day! It will probably be good for a second crop of flowers in autumn.
Linda – I hope you and Friend enjoyed your afternoon of TV – and a good chat I would think! Love that kind of Poppy – Dau#1 once saved seed from one at her in-laws, and her garden was covered in them the following year. I don’t think I had seen the photos before, of the two pups playing in the garden – lovely!
Dibnlib – I think it is next month that the Kelpie maquettes are coming down our way, to Kirkcudbright. Certainly sounds as if Dalmatian’s original owner had it as a fashion accessory – we have a woman round here who walks hers, two paces ahead of her friend with a mongrel – we refer to her as Mrs Snooty Dog!
Heather – so sad that Callum and Amy won’t get to Germany after all; does seem rather thoughtless on the part of their Father.
OH is now watering the potatoes and other things with big leaves! He is also going to feed my Geraniums and Fuchsias – my back is too painful for the watering can.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
If anyone would like a good laugh check out this link - and I wouldn't play it as loudly as Paul suggests!

Hello Everyone. Just read through all the posts for the last six days !! I hurt my back last Thursday, which has been rather painful. The anti-inflammatory tablets have helped, but I stopped taking them, as I they made me feel so sleepy.
Daughter's wedding is the 17th September, OG. Everything is arranged, hopefully, although I haven't been able to look for my outfit yet. Thank you for missing me.Sorry you have been suffering recently.
Heather, What a disappointment for Callum and especially, Amy. Not something you would expect of your Dad :-((
Lovely photographs Linda. We have poppies growing in our front garden this year, which we didn't plant. I guess the birds have been doing their duty.
OH is waiting to install the latest 'BT 6 hub', so I will sign off now. Hope the rain doesn't continue tomorrow.
