WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JULY 3, 2016

Welcome to a new week.  Hope ALL the familiar faces will show up this week!  :-)

Go back to page 8 of the previous thread to see Mike's link to the question: How do you free a Golden Eagle caught up in a very high tree without the use of a ladder?   Page 9 shows Bowie posing for his closeup.  OG and EE are busy shooting at cats and cheering on Housemartins in the midst of home repairs (the birds that is).

Brenda: Well, there always seems to be one lavender bush that I missed!  I have to tidy them up and take off all the dead blooms once during the summer, then in the winter, I whack 'em all back by a third. Trouble is, they're all getting old and woody.

OH and I bought tickets to a concert tonight - Jean-Yves Thibaudet is playing Rhapsody in Blue and since the Music Academy is hosting the show, the tickets were super cheap. But now we're looking at each other and thinking we'd rather stay home in our comfy togs and relax. But no. Must hose off and rise to the occasion.

Was amazed that Djokovich got knocked out at Wimbledon so early. Shocker!

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • CHRISSYB   How nice you found a hedgehog in your garden and thought to take it to a larger wild garden.

LINDY  Do hope your OH hasn't got the bug you had, which really sounded dreadful. Hope you are now fully recovered.

  • Back home in one piece now, and laundry on the line.

A Tescos chicken & mushroom pastie for tonight, with some of our own fresh peas. Lots of stuff to put away.

Laughed about the love lorn Callum, Heather!

  • Dibnlib - Thanks,  I'm OK, just tired.  My OH is still gurgling - we'll have to wait and see.

  • Morning all:

OG: I meant to tell you that you do not "boringly mention" your trips. To the contrary, I always find something interesting about them to Google.

Heather: Listened to the BBC World Service on the way home last night and imagined you doing the same. Hope your kitchen guy manages to do the job before winter arrives. You may be so accommodating he'll keep putting you on the back burner, so to speak.  Had to Google geomorphology to learn exact definition. Sounds interesting. I'm going to be a geologist in my next life (also an anthropologist, archaeologist, paleontologist and a whole bunch of otherologists). I wish your daughter good luck with Callum's next "phase."

Lindybird: Really does sound like food poisoning - it can lay you out for weeks.

Very slow start to the day here...

  • I've left OH downstairs in the back room, watching the BBC news. Even with hearing aids and subtitles he struggles, so he has the volume very high. He has headphones in the sitting room and bedroom but not in that room:-(

LINDY - perturbed that your OH is also maybe unwell. I'm thinking some kind of infection? Too much of a coincidence for you both to get symptoms - first one, then another? Having said that, you became unwell before you went to Wales and he is only just showing symptoms. Very mysterious...

I will be meeting middle daughter and Amy for lunch tomorrow, Amy's birthday. She wants to go to Zizzi. OK, I can deal with that,I like Italian food. But the chairs are so hard with no cushioning. Just wooden. I might just take a cushion in my bag...

  • ANNETTE - Yes, when I'm listening to some programmes, I wonder if you and DIANE will hear the same thing at some point. They do repeat things, as we know!

  • Made it onto here after a very full day of this-and-that; nothing big, just lots of little things filling the hours.  No rain at all, but we had stuff to do indoors, so no more gardening yet.  Just noticed a total of six Goldfinches feeding outside the study window – including young ones, which we have been seeing front and back for a few weeks now.  No obvious Cat raids recently, but no success with water pistol either.  Keep seeing Wood Mice again, so got the humane traps out; we think they are nesting between the two sides of the back fence, but they can get out at the bottom and run down the concrete panel and back up again.

Linda – nice to hear from you.  I just saw that there is a serious outbreak of e-coli in England, apparently connected with pre-washed bags of salad and the advice is to remember to wash all veg and salad, as well as hands and all the other hygiene suggestions.  I hope you are continuing to feel stronger each day and that your OH will not get any worse.

Lmac – lovely cheery pictures of summer sunshine in Majorca, although I know it would be too hot for me.  Did Tapaidh go into kennels?  I hope she was happy with that!

AQ – I hope the physio was pleased with you; you have been doing really well.  We expect to see a photo of you with your gold star – or at least a certificate!

Heather – I hope you will soon here from kitchen joiner and get started and finished before winter.  Good for your Daughter and Granddaughter to have “Mother & Daughter” time in Edinburgh; I would love to make a cultural visit there, but getting around the capital is so difficult – even when you book an accessible taxi, they still send an ordinary one.  Will be looking forward to more news of Callum’s arrival in the adult world of relationships!  Meanwhile, enjoy his Sister’s birthday lunch!

Annette – may I please join you as a multi-ologist (or even an omni-ologist) next time around?  There are so many things which interest me and I would love to know more.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • First time I have looked in since last Saturday. Beautiful weather when the cloud moves away. Spent most of Sunday at the bowls club. We hold a competition for other Sussex clubs, which takes from 8.30am until 5.30pm. We provide lunch and afternoon tea, which is donated by some of our members. We still manages £700 profit though. Yesterday and today we have been busy with the garden  and shopping. I also had an argument with the Window cleaner. I allow him to park his van on our drive while he cleans all our and neighbours windows. I went to go out in the car, only to find that he had a second van on the other side of the drive and had completely blocked my car in. I asked how long he thought he was going to leave the 2nd van there as I had been patiently waiting to go out. His reply was that I only had to ask him to move it. In short, my reply was that in my world, it is good manners to ask if I would allow him to park a second vehicle and I shouldn't have to ask him to move his van before I could use my car, on my drive.  Anyhow he quickly moved the van and I drove out, absolutely fuming. He saw my OH later, as he wanted paying and the two drivers apologised profusely. They did say that they had never seen me so angry and they should have asked before blocking my car in the drive. It all sounds so trivial when I write it down, but I was so angry with his replies and for taking advantage of my previous good nature.

Anyhow I will 'see' you ALL tomorrow.

Margo will write a post at some time.

  • Ooooh! BRENDA - I didn't know you could do angry like that - but you are quite right!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi OG  yes she goes to kennels at a gundog training place.  She genuinely loves it and gives a little sad cry when it's time to go home. She has loads of other dogs to play with and the owners are so nice.  Here she is after a welcome home yoghurt treat
