I know I am a little early, but since I have a break, I will take advantage!
Yesterday brought a seemingly endless supply of fish, and it was noted more than once that #1 has suddenly grown monstrously big during the course of the day. The one remarkable event of aggression was #1 pecking at EJ (sequence by moffer), who had somehow jabbed her several times with the back end of sticks she was attempting to arrange (video by Birdie Num Num).
Speaking of which, we will have to muddle on by ourselves while BNN goes on her holidays! We hope she has a good time but hurry back please. :-*

Right from day 1 at the VC watching those three chicks it was obvious chick 3 was never going to make it. It never got fed from the start to the same levels the other 2 were and it was pecked from the start and didn't raise itself to beg for food. Ej and any other raptor will only respond to food begging and open beaks for food.
This two are very different and chick 2 is thriving and doing very well in the food stakes. It has the energy to retaliate in 2012 chick 3 didnt
Very true, Lmac. I am not worried about this year's chick either - he/she seems very savvy.

FISH! The happy family.
#1 has turned away. #2 is stuffing his face. Grow little one :)
Just for a record: EJ's food-offering chirps and chicks' eating squeals.
#1 is back at the feast. Plenty to go around.
#1 has turned away again.
