I know I am a little early, but since I have a break, I will take advantage!
Yesterday brought a seemingly endless supply of fish, and it was noted more than once that #1 has suddenly grown monstrously big during the course of the day. The one remarkable event of aggression was #1 pecking at EJ (sequence by moffer), who had somehow jabbed her several times with the back end of sticks she was attempting to arrange (video by Birdie Num Num).
Speaking of which, we will have to muddle on by ourselves while BNN goes on her holidays! We hope she has a good time but hurry back please. :-*

I remember a nest (Dennis Puleston - DPOF in Long Island) where within 3 chicks, the 2nd beat up mercilessly on the third, while the first not only didn't pick on #3, but seemed to beat up up on #2 when it was picking on #3. We were afraid #3 would perish, but he was ingenious in his ways of getting food and avoiding the evil eye of #2, and succeeded in fledging - his name was Flag. Tiger and Chloe remember him well.
Headless mum, headless son/daughter
It just makes me feel sick, and takes me back to 2012 when chick #3 was killed by Alba. Horrible :(
EJ has just flown.
Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
She's back with a small stick. Please don't poke #1 with it EJ.
She trips over #2
all's ok and she settles down to brood

This year, one chick from Chesapeake Conservancy was taken by a Great Horned Owl in the middle of the night, leaving one. The mother was knocked off the nest in silence. But somehow it is worse to see the beatings on the nest by a sibling, even though most survive well enough.
Chicks seem content enough, at least at the present moment!
I have to go for a while, but I'm recording. Hurry up with a fish Odin.
It was actually Caledonia who dispatched chick no3 at the end.
Alba would beat 3 andCaley would beat Alba but it was the lovely Caley who dealt the final aggression out to end the suffering for 3 I'm afraid to say.
Oh! Thanks, Lmac. Honestly I cannot remember who dealt the final blow, but #3 really suffered under both siblings as I remember... :(
