THE LOCH GARTEN OSPRY GABFEST FOR JUNE, 2016

JUNE Surely even in Scotland it is summer by now. Our Loch Garten osprey family is off to a good start, with two lovely chicks, both growing like weeds as little bobbleheads seem to have a way of doing.  Already they are both, even the wee one, too steady on their feet, too well coordinated,to be called bobbleheads..  So in June we will watch as they move onward to become bigger and better.

  • Off around Loch Ard and Lake of Monteith later this afternoon (local for me) to see if I can spot anything interesting.

I also need to find a nice shaped rock for my rockery. The rocks in my rockery have been collected from as far north as Arisaig and south to Berwick including ones from Speyside and Glencoe. Certainly weigh the car down on return.

  • Hi Keith  hope you have a great day out. Do you know if Strathallan osprey have a family this year. I read they were back but it has been all very quiet since March on the news front.

  • Hi All, Thanks for the pics and posts.

June, I like your Manton Bay silhouette pic.

Keith, Best of luck with your excursions; I look forward to your reports.  Can't wait to get to Rutland Water myself in August (hope the Manton Bay Ospreys have not all migrated by the time of Birdfair!).  Great news about the 3rd UK nest with 4 chicks!  Agreed, it must be those good Glaslyn genes. Wouldn't it be great if Roy D. would tell us which Scottish nests Mr. Glaslyn 11(98) and Mr. Rutland 03(97) came from?!  I expect that the people at the Glaslyn and Dyfi Osprey projects are thrilled to bits that it is two Glaslyn-bred males who are parents to two of the 4-chick nests!  And what luck that male White YA (now at Kielder nest 1A) was rescued several times several years ago from that fishery in Somerset (Blagdon), only to go on to start his own dynasty.  Fingers crossed that all chicks in those 3 nests fledge successfully.

    Kind regards, Ann

  • Good afternoon all. Great news Keith that there are 3 nests now with 4 chicks! Is this going to be a future trend higher productivity:) This is great news of course if there is a plentiful supply of fish, so great news !

  • Mr Glaslyn and Mr Rutland are both legends and what a legacy they leave truly great ospreys. White YA an amazing bird too and lucky he was rescued several times at Blagdon lakes. Red faces all round LOL!

  • Keith hope you have a great stay at Rutland. We really enjoyed our stay there and spent many hours in the hide watching S1, S2, and S3. They were enjoying their new freedom and dipping their feet in the water Lovely to watch :) They hopefully are due to return next summer and fingers crossed for them :)

  • Keith hope you find the perfect rock! We ruined our cars suspension carrying concrete slabs for a grave, also gravel and other stuff! It was only a small car and I think we were a little ambitios LOL

  • Good afternoon all. Great to see UV is not far from home and alls well at LG chicks are huge! Rutlands Manton Bay chicks are so well developed now they are looking like proper ospreys now

fr3 continuing to do well and and long may he do so. Hope to see him return next year. Not sure what happened to FR4, I believe he was missing in action, not heard from since :(

  • Sad to hear of the apalling attacks on a night club resulting in 50 deaths and many injured. Yet again more sickening violence on totally innocent victims. All very depressing Thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones :((
