Help/Information Please

Hi, good morning.  Firstly, let me introduce myself.  My name is Cathie & I've been following our LG Ospreys for quite a few years (since Henry's days), but have never posted to the forum before.  I first started watching from Africa, but I'm now living in Watford, UK.

My question has absolutely nothing to do with Ospreys though.  I've just been watching a Robin in the garden & on two occasions it actually 'hovered' about above the pellets it was feeding on.  It looked really strange (and very hard work) and I wondered if this was a normal practice for Robins.

As I'm trying to learn more about the British birds, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks, Cathie

  • Hello Cathie, I would say your robin was just being very cautious. It is possibly not feeling too safe if the food is in the open or is it very windy where you live. It could be a young bird. It will become more accustomed to where you leave the pellets. They are usually a very friendly bird.

Just to help you, these pages are for ospreys and all other birds/ wildlife are discussed on http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/forums/.

Hope you stay on here though when you want to talk Ospreys or on our Weekly Chat Page where we talk about anything.

  • Thanks for the info Brenda, much appreciated & I'll certainly have a look in at the weekend.

    Cheers, Cathie

  • Hi Cathie -  love your avatar!

As Brenda says, these pages are really 'osprey pages' - sorry to seem to be unfriendly but they have to be on different groups and threads or it would all be a bit of a jumble.  We would love you to drop in and join in, if you want of course, especially if you've been enjoying the ospreys for some time now. Youre very welcome    : - )

  • Morning Cathie: I don't know a whole lot about birds (have wings, two feet (although I used to draw them with four when I was in grade school), sing various songs, etc., But I do know Watford, having grown up there before I left in '63. Used to live near the Town Hall and Library and spent a lot of time in Cassiobury Park.  Hope you don't mind my saying hallo!
