Weekly Chat Sunday July 4 2010

Hallo all:   I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.

Auntie: Great that you had a lovely day at Pohtiolampi; how fun to see ospreys in action.

OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north!  We expect a full report!  OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross.  Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!!  Eeeeuw!  Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant....    Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles?  All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?"  Oh dear. Talk about regressing......  Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy.  Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste  better).

AQ: Universal laws transcend borders. :-)

It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!)  with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display.  OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).

In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.

  • DJOAN   you must have had such a shock to see a former pupil  involved with that very distressing event

  • ANNETTE wonderful video of the LOTL chick getting a little bit airborne. They are about a week aheah of LG I think

  • AUNTIE  there is a parakeet in Singapore who is a Paul of the skies and he thinks it will be Holland?

  • Afternoon dibnlib and yes I am thrilled to bits with my new hearing ability.  Third day wearing it now and no problems at all.  Can't believe all the things I can hear now.  The first time I put it in I had a bit of difficulty but now it seems easy and goes in first time without any need to turn the air blue.  Good job I went for it as OH had threatened he would get me a hearing trumpet.  Obviously he is pleased too at not having to repeat things all the time and also I am not getting the wrong end of the stick anymore.

  • LINDA  Was involved with the 1981 cencus. Everyone else I knew got nice little housing estates. Not me I had to deliver to a rural area and not only were there guard dogs but guard geese as well!!!! Never again and I agree a complete waste of money.

  • MARGO....in our house if I don't hear OH then it is because I'm deaf, if he doesn't hear me it is because I am mumbling mmmmmm

Know the feeling dibmlib but sadly in my case it was me going deaf even though the first time I went to have my ears checked I was sure I was going to come home and having great delight in telling OH hearing was fine.  Now we have trouble with the volume on radio and TV.  It is now too loud for me but if I turn it down he can't hear can't win can we.

  • Afternoon all ... pretty miserable weatherwise here ... dull, damp and dark, although stll warm  :-((

margobird - I'm glad you are getting on so well with your hearing aid - it must be wonderful to hear sounds that you have been missing for so long.

Linda - I'm glad that the gunman stand-off in Rothbury is over .... I feel so sorry for the residents ... it is such a beautiful little place, we go there quite often. I suppose one good thing for the place is that it has shown what a wonderful area it is and may encourage more visitors. Several of those arrested, as alleged accomplices, were from my town ... a little too close for comfort!

Regarding the census, I, too, think some of the questions very intrusive, and the costs ridiculous. However, I have found the old census records useful in tracing family history!

Thanks to all for chat etc

    Take care

  • Good afternoon DjoanS sorry about your weather.  It is hot and sultry here and all a bit much for me.  Can only stay in the garden for short periods because of my skin problems.

It was hare to believe what we watched last evening and I thought that would be probably be the outcome.  What a relief for those residents.  You have to wonder how he managed to avoid capture for so long as they though he had been round the village most of the time they were searching for him.  It will take a while for the residents to beel back to normal again I should think.

  • DJOAN S      well they do say every cloud has a silver lining and OH and I had thought it looked a lovely place so it may well encourage more visitors.
