Weekly Chat Sunday July 4 2010

Hallo all:   I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.

Auntie: Great that you had a lovely day at Pohtiolampi; how fun to see ospreys in action.

OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north!  We expect a full report!  OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross.  Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!!  Eeeeuw!  Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant....    Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles?  All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?"  Oh dear. Talk about regressing......  Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy.  Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste  better).

AQ: Universal laws transcend borders. :-)

It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!)  with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display.  OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).

In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.

  • Morning, All:  Sunny alternating with cloudy here this morning, warmer temps promised but not as hot as in the South.

Did not get around to replying to many posts yesterday, too busy, but will attempt to find time today. How am I going to get anything done if they are going to Ring & Bling anytime soon ???? Have to go out on emergency shopping mission this morning, as running out of stuff because I didn't go out yesterday!

    Have a Good Day, All.

  • .....but a parrot in Asia somewhere has predicted Holland!!  auntie.....

  • Afternoon all hazy sunshine here, but very warm and humid :-((

Diane - so sorry about your car ... I hope it isn't much and that its not expensive to fix. I notice on the barn owl diary that the owlets were ringed yesterday. I know they were worried that the food wasn't coming in, but that has been proved wrong! I saw the owlets trying to jump up to the entrance ... even the little one was having a go yesterday evening :-)) They are so entertaining at this stage.

Alan - enjoy your trip to the Lakes ... I hope Hamish is being co-operative today!

Thanks to all for chat/ links etc

Must go and do non-osprey things for a while!

    Take care

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Afternoon all,

Diane : I hope that your car problem is soon resolved.

Everyone else thanks for your good wishes re our forthcoming holiday to the Lakes. I dont mind it being cooler and a little drizzly. Far better than this heat today. It is approaching 30c at the moment. Hamish is fast asleep. I had to cut his walk short today as it was so hot. We leave in the morning so I was hoping the ringing and blinging will be done today. I am not taking the laptop but I know there is an internet cafe in Keswick so I may pop in there sometime during the week if the weather is bad.

I hope everyone has a good week.

  • Afternoon all -  From a dripping wet Inverness. Tourists walking about trying to look brave. Ospreys must be wetter than I am. Diane - Hope your car gets fixed and not too expensively. Alan - Have a great holiday! Margobird - Well done for getting the aid in place right away. I do think that women have more dexterity than men but don't quote me on that :-))  Annette - enjoy the new TV. OG - Are you around? I have been thinking of you over the past few days. Everyone else - I read and enjoy all your posts and pictures but can't always remember individual names when I sit at the keyboard. Thanks for your company.

  • Whatever the weather Alan, do have a fantastic holiday and I do hope the weather is warm and dry. It really is too hot down here today.

  • Good afternoon all been kept busy since coming back from sons, visiting BiL in hospital and taking SiL on shopping missions. Had two visits to LG while up at sons but it was very windy and there wasn't a lot happening but the staff as usual were very informative about the ospreys and they were convinced that if they didn't get the ringing done this week they might be too late.

It was my birthday when I was up at my sons and they had managed to get me one of the osprey prints that they were giving new members who join at LG and had it framed so it now has pride of place at the top of my stairs and every time I go up the stair the beady eye of the osprey looks down on me

Hope every one has a good weekend

  • From me, too - have a great holiday Alan & Lady P.   Hope you get to see some ospreys!  Tell us all about it, later.  Do so love the L. District, its one of my favourite places, so will be jealously thinking of you there. Weather could be good - it can rain up there, that's why its so green, but when the sun is on the trees & the water....oooh.

margobird:   Glad you're getting to grips with the technical side of things    ; - )     Have a great time at the concert on Saturday.
