Hallo all: I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.
Auntie: Great that you had a lovely day at Pohtiolampi; how fun to see ospreys in action.
OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north! We expect a full report! OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross. Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!! Eeeeuw! Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant.... Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles? All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?" Oh dear. Talk about regressing...... Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy. Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste better).
AQ: Universal laws transcend borders. :-)
It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!) with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display. OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).
In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.
Glad to hear you are not any worse for wear Patriciat - just a bit more colourful than usual :-)
Hi Lindybird, didn't recognise you with your new avatar, very pretty! Two more excellent poems, thanks, one for the Osprey file and now I have to start a Dust Bunny file (or no, maybe just a non-osprey file). I noticed that when I copied the first one you were on 1754 posts (March) and now you're on 4514. Glad you enjoyed the film, does anyone know when the Harry Potter is out?
Glad to hear you're coming to Cumbria, Alan. I have next week off so I might walk past you one day if you go to the upper viewpoint at Dodd Wood. If I see Handsome Hamish I will introduce myself!
I always watch the Tour de France, AQ. We had several holidays in the Pyrenees about 20 years ago and I like to think "we were there".
Glad to hear your new ears are working Margo, or one anyway for now, how lovely to hear birdsong again. MiL always has the television on so loud but won't admit to being the slightest deaf, even though OH and his sister always tell her so. She's missed so much.
I know OG said her son's problem would not be sorted out before Thursday, has she said when she is returning?
Terry in Cumbria
Lindybird another gem from you , thank you. Literally on my way to bed but could not resist having a quick look in. Goodnight all on weekly chat.
Margobird
Evening all: Another busy day - with sun peeking out finally around 2 p.m., and now overcast has rolled in again. But they're forecasting normal weather starting this weekend.
OK. Bought our flat screen telly today! It's in the garage right now, unpacked; have to upgrade our cable box so will do that tomorrow, then will set aside some time on Saturday to hook it up in time for the World Cup Final on Sunday.
BrendaH: Hope the funeral doesn't suffer a downpour; never helps. Will you be having the family staying at your house again? No, no-one felt the earthquake - well a few people did - but nobody I know. There's a tab on the U.S. Geological Survey site called "Did you feel it?" where you click then answer all kinds of questions about your location, the severity of the quake, etc., which then forms a map. This is the map for yesterday's quake, which was quite small. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/events/ci/10736069/us/index.html
Margobird: Funny about the TV volume. My OH always likes it louder than I do. Along with our new telly, we bought a wireless headset. If I want to watch something on the flat-screen while he's working on his computer or reading, I can wear them - they're lightweight. But if he's watching something and wants it louder that I do, do you think he's going to break down and wear them so he can have the volume up high? Somehow I don't think so. Stay tuned for news of upcoming volume wars! I'm sure you'll get very good at putting in the earpiece - I've never gone for contact lenses because I can't stand the thought of putting them in my eyes - and I'm afraid of losing them too. And apparently the disposable ones can cause eye problems. Thanks for reminding us about Pale Male and Lola! It's been ospreys all the time lately. Interesting to have that early insight into your former boyfriend.
Alan: Hamish probably suspects he's not going to the Lake District, so he's decided not to cooperate.
Lindybird: Cute little verse written in a chick's voice. (But too much wind today.) I'm surprised they're all still there.
Diane: You are SO observant - and such a good memory. Yes indeedy, Watford is my hometown. I shall trundle over to that thread and say Hi. Hope things are cooler there.
TerryM: I started a "Loch Garten: Other" file, which now includes Big Rig Steve, various garden centers, restaurants, webcams, etc. around the UK, not to mention others in Oz, Finland, etc.... So be careful! :-) I think OG is due back Saturday.
Trucker Steve is currently barreling his way across Wyoming.....he's got a tight schedule and a long trip...
Hi, all.
Today's shopping mission had to be postponed. I turned the key in the car's ignition this morning and nothing happened. Completely dead. Wrecker Guy is coming tomorrow to try to jump start it and then, if necessary, tow it to the Mechanic Guy. I hope it's just the battery. Can extreme heat affect a car's battery? I'm usually very self-sufficient, but I don't know a bloomin' thing about cars. (I hate to drive.) All I can do is pop open the hood and look for the On/Off Switch. LOL Stupid car. Stupid, rotten, worthless, lazy old car... Wonder if I can push it into the creek and collect the insurance? LOL
Annette: Congratulations on the new TV! Yay! And in time for the World Cup, too. Excellent! Lindybird: Lovely new verse!!! I love the Shrek movies. Look forward to seeing the new one. Margobird: Glad you had the good sense to part company with that old boyfriend when you did. DjoanS: The oldest barn owlet is doing a lot of wing exercising and staring longingly at the nestbox window. It considered using one of its siblings as a step stool to try to reach the window yesterday. :-) OG: If you're reading this thread, I hope the day went well for you and your son. Alan: Have a wonderful trip!!!
Diane: Oh bummer re the car. Could be just a battery (they can die suddenly). Let's hope that's the case. Hope the AAA guy (or whoever) can fix it easily (and for not many $$$).
Hello all! I'm having an optician appointment this am and I'm already terrified about having to choose new specs... it is so hard
Diane, like Annette said, bummer, bummer re your car! Hope it gets sorted out easily
Lindybird, great poetry again!
Have a nice day all, and see you later!

Good Mornign ALL. Another sunny morning after a humid night, with higher temperatures forecast today and over the weekend. I woke up early. The bed was too warm and I couldn't get back to sleep.
Annette; I don't think any of the neighbours family will be staying with us after their Father's funeral. As far as I know only two daughters will be staying with their Mother and the rest will be returning home as they have young children. We are prepared for things to change.
Diane; Sorry about your car. Hope it is only the battery.
auntie; I sympathise with you. I hate choosing new specs.
Must keep my eye on the nest but then I could fall asleep again. Off to have a shower.
Morning All - just popping in to see if they're all still there LOL! I bet loads of people are watching today. It's already drizzly in north Cumbria.
