Weekly Chat Sunday July 4 2010

Hallo all:   I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.

Auntie: Great that you had a lovely day at Pohtiolampi; how fun to see ospreys in action.

OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north!  We expect a full report!  OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross.  Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!!  Eeeeuw!  Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant....    Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles?  All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?"  Oh dear. Talk about regressing......  Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy.  Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste  better).

AQ: Universal laws transcend borders. :-)

It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!)  with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display.  OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).

In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.

  • Just read your post above, Brenda  and feel I should say how sensible you are - I'm sure your daughter won't mind and you need to catch up and draw breath, if you have been dashing around a lot. Be kind to yourselves!

  • Good morning BrendaH take it easy it is very tiring travelling so enjoy a more relaxing day.  Warm and sunny here too but like you we really need some rain but as yet no sign of any.  I bet once it starts it won't know when to stop.

    A few more Universal Laws

Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet/rug.

Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal and someone always answers.

Thanks aquilareen that made me smile but so true.

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the overnight and morning chat, links, pics etc:

Patriciat : Sorry about your accident and I hope your leg is better soon.

SueC : Thanks for the link to the sculptor. Very talented.

Hamish says thanks for all the kind comments. Take it easy though  as we dont want him to get big headed.

This morning I have been cleaning LadyP s car as she has gone to town with her daughter. Just about to take Hamish out for his afternoon walk. Weather is cloudy at the moment but still quite warm. We desperately need some rain. Grass is all brown and water butt is completely empty. Temp 18.9c

  • Hello everyone - got back from hols last night and had a very very quick look at the latest news and chat. Today, have been flying between washing machine and visiting plumber (thankfully two things not connected!) and computer so have managed to catch up on most of what has been happening.  Thanks to you all for news, wonderful pictures and informative and entertaining posts! I see that OG has shut down prior to her visit to see her son. I am sending all the positive thoughts that I can in her direction. Take care, all.

  • Welcome back HeatherB and hope you had a good holiday.  As you can see lots going on and mini-ospreys all working towards lift off, very entertaining to watch.  Holidays are great but it is the washing and ironing when you come back.

Glad you are back as tomorrow I go for my hearing aid fitting and I might need some tips on how to manage it best as I know you said your OH wears them.  I am a little worried about things being too loud especially when we go to shows so I think it is going to be a bit trial and error to begin with.

  • Hello, Heather,  and welcome back - hope you enjoyed yourselves. All is well on the nest and its possible they may  'ring and bling'  them tomorrow, as the wind has been bad this week at LG up to now.

Here are my pics of our trip yesterday to the coast.  Buzz the Dog enjoyed himself very much indeed, running around on the endless sand!

we found a poor jellyfish which had been left behind in the tide - OH stood with his enormous size 12's next to it to show the size...

The trees in the area are all one-sided because of the constant sea breezes...

Hello Margobird - Yes, please do ask anything, and I will relay reply from OH. Regarding shows, I think that he has a way of connecting into a loop system in theatres, but not sure, he is the expert (as you will become in time!) He is away putting petrol in the car and watering two gardens for holidaying relatives so I can't ask him right now. Right now my best advice would be to persevere because you are right, it is trial and error. Also, when one's hearing has been poor for a long time, the sounds that we would have once recognised as normal seem very loud when the aids are put in. My son had recurring ear infections as a young child, resulting in what I think is called'glue ear'. When he finally had a myringotomy and grommets put in his ears and we did our first post op visit, he complained bitterly about how noisy everything was in the hospital. Just normal hospital sounds, but to him, intolerably noisy until he became used to hearing properly again.
