Hallo all: I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.

OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north! We expect a full report! OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross. Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!! Eeeeuw! Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant.... Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles? All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?" Oh dear. Talk about regressing...... Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy. Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste better).

It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!) with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display. OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).
In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.
Hi folks. Haven't been posting as another busy weekend - dog competitions, of course! Not a lot of success, though Fly had 2 fourth places in Obedience yesterday. It was extremely windy and the car door blew closed, hitting my leg with a resulting large bruise. Thank goodness for arnica!
Love all the pictures and interesting info. Alan Hamish is as gorgeous as ever, and what a poser! I think male dogs pose more than bitches, Tweed certainly does and our previous boy did too. The girls have to be persuaded. OG What wonderful pics. I seem to remember you got a new camera a while back (Canon?) It gives you great definition. And how exciting to have a pic. sent to Iceland!

Annette - I assume Pigeon's tail will grow again when he would be due to regrow feathers after a moult (unless he is damaged deep in the skin where it came from) - Mrs No-Tail Blackbird hasn't got hers back yet! Who is going to the Lake District? What have I missed?

Patriciat - well done with Fly's obedience rosettes. Sorry about your leg - has it broken the skin again ( I know you said before you have thin skin due to medications)?

Thanks original goldfinch I have been told by various people that they will take a bit of getting use to. Might have to turn the sound down at LG when EJ goes into shouting mode. We are going to a Joe Brown concert again on Saturday so hopefully I will be a bit more used to them but I know it will take a while to adjust to this new situation. Have to admit it is still a bit of a shock to me. I prided myself on my good hearing to make up for my appalling vision.

Alan: Did love that striking picture of the hollyhocks - a flower which went out of fashion for a while except in cottage gardens, but is now Right Back in fashion as all things with large spikes have come back again into vogue. Flowers are just flowers to me, but apparently there are fashions for these things.

patriciat: Sorry to hear you had a fight with a car door and lost - look after those poor legs of yours. I use Arnica now after reading about it some while back, its great for those bruises.
Diane: Glad you enjoyed the poem. My Dust Bunnies are now joining up with my spider's webs and its beginning to look like Miss Havisham's (from Dickens) around here... way tooo much osprey watching!
Annette: Sounds like you had a nice restful 4th of July, anyway. On Saturday night we had a major firework party somewhere local, poor Dog came bounding up the stairs in fright & had to sleep on the floor next to his dad's bed all night to be comforted! (not usually allowed)
We had a sunny day out today, went to Formby Sands in Lancashire, on the coast. There are red squirrels there (didn't see any as they are somewhat decimated by a virus in the last couple of years but numbers are coming back again now, apparently). Walked along the large beach there and had a picnic by the car, watched by lots of hungry seagulls. Then a walk in the woods. Will put up some pics tomorrow. Saw all this very clearly , as rushed out to the opticians before we went, to collect new glasses! They had my new sunglasses ready, & fixed my other new ones while I waited, so 10 out of 10 to SpecSavers.
Must go water sweet peas now & other tender pots, no rain here today after all.
OG and Lindybird Thanks for your concern. No lasting damage, as it was the inner side of the calf that made contact with the door sill - shin guard protected the outer side and the tibia. I'll be more careful the next time I climb into a car in a high wind. I was idstracted by a freshly cooked bacon and egg roll!
Sorry your poor dog was terrified by fireworks, Lindybird. Ours all hate them too.
Trying to keep up-to-date until I switch off tonight - will miss you all as much as the Ospreys (and I really do mean that - you're a great bunch of people)! Alan - I'm sure you'll enjoy the Lake District - is Hamish going with you this time? Lindybird - well done to Specsavers! Pleased you had a good day out at Formby Sands - sad about squirrels having declined, it used to be impossible not to see them there!
