Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday 4th July

Happy Independence Day America.   (hope I've got my history right)

It was a very gusty day at LG. What with EJ having difficulty landing earlier on that day and trying to keep on the nest when she was there.   Lots of wing flapping exercises, one nearly took off but not quite. To top it all it started to rain.

EJ is right on the edge of the nest and has now taken off , probably going to her roost tree.  Earlier she brought in a very large trout and just before that Odin had brought in a fish and left it for the youngsters. One did try to feed itself and then when mum came back with hers, abandoned it and went to mum for a feed.  In all an entertaining day watching these incredible birds.

Happy viewing and we'll see what today brings. Night, night.

  • Catch you later Annette.  Have a good sleep.

Well folks I have to vanish for a bit, for the human equivenlent of a brisk splash in the bird bath, followed by a good preen.

All quiet on the nest, with the youngsters all huddled together and looking fantastic as always.

  • Odin just delivered a  fish

The Chicks saw EJ coming and started calling  her before she landed. She  had seen Odin coming because she  just got to the nest  1/2 minute before he landed. Odin did  take a moment and   look down  at one of the chicks  before he flew off

I think this is fish  #1  for today

  • I too enjoyed your night shot and early daylight pic Heron. Not recently, but i''v heard Tawny Owl too - great sound in the dusk or darkness, isn't it.   Another day ! Good morning to you all - ejoyed all the early posts - it certainly gets one  'into the feel ' of things. Lynette so faithful  to stay up and start us on another Update page - thanks Lynette.

Right now all I hear are feeding noises from the youngest two. Our independent First - may give herself a superior preen this morning -- or push in just to have a look at her siblings feeding and catch  40 winks or so.

  • 'morning to you too BarbaraJean.  I would like to add my well wishes and congrats too, to all you fans across The Pond for a wonderful 4th July     :)

  • Lindybird and Barbara Jean (happy 4th July from me too!)

I've posted the answer to your query yesterday, about long-term tracking of juvenile ospreys, in the "Satellite Tracked Ospreys" thread.

  • Hi everyone.

Delighted to find out Odin delivered breakfast.  No sort of rotten weather stops this awsome Osprey from providing for his family.  :-)

Totally agree about the sound of the Tawny Owl, Cirrus.  It really is a great sound.

Thanks for the long-term tracking info you posted on the "Satellite Tracked Ospreys" thread, Sue C.

Well the 3 young Ospreys are enjoying the  variety of a Scottish summer :-(  Of course I have to stand up for my Country.  It only rains twice a week.  Once for four days and once for three days.

Morning, All.    Relieved to come on to the nest this morning and still find 3 bodies huddled up together: it has been a very windy night for them, there.  No sign of EJ but I'm sure she's nearby.

HAPPY 4th JULY to all our USA friends!  Have a great day.

  • Hi Heron!    Still laughing at your comment above about the human equiivalent of the bird bath - and now I'm chuckling at the other comment on the wonderful weather!

EdIt:   Just seen the great pics taken at night, last night - wonderful stuff!

  • Morning everyone,

Happy 4th July to our american friends, have a lovely day :o)

Raining quite heavily here in the highlands today, not cold but not a great forecast for the rest of the day either, bit breezy too.

All three chicks are huddled together at the moment having a sleep.  No sign of EJ or Odin.
