Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday 4th July

Happy Independence Day America.   (hope I've got my history right)

It was a very gusty day at LG. What with EJ having difficulty landing earlier on that day and trying to keep on the nest when she was there.   Lots of wing flapping exercises, one nearly took off but not quite. To top it all it started to rain.

EJ is right on the edge of the nest and has now taken off , probably going to her roost tree.  Earlier she brought in a very large trout and just before that Odin had brought in a fish and left it for the youngsters. One did try to feed itself and then when mum came back with hers, abandoned it and went to mum for a feed.  In all an entertaining day watching these incredible birds.

Happy viewing and we'll see what today brings. Night, night.

  • Happy Independence Day, America. EJ standing guard on her perch overlooking three wriggling GEMs. Plinking noises. Oh no, not rain. Thank you, folks, for the amazing pics yesterday. So ring & bling day is Monday. Hasn't time flown!!!!

  • Hi  :-)

Thanks for starting the thread Lynette.  By the way you have got your history right.  So Happy Fourth of July, to all the folks in the United States of America. :-)

ChrisyB:  Thanks for the info you posted on yesterday's thread, on feathers.  Every time I ask a question on this site I always feel nervous about asking, delighted at the help I'm given, then daft at being so nervous in  the first place.  What a brilliant source on great information this group is.

EJ back on the nest for the last good while.  I wonder if she's admiring her offspring's new waterproof feathers in the rain.  :-)

  • Thanks Lynette ! Yes it is  Independence Day.  We just   call it the  4th of July.  Or even if you say  The 4th people here  know what you mean . It is a day of  parades,  picnics and fireworks displays.  It is one of the  very few holidays  we don't go broke buying gifts . LOL  Aside from  party  and lawn decorations the merchants have not  figure out how to make this into a gift giving holiday . We can  enjoy family and  friends in  peace .

Yesterday it was  great watching the chick eat with nearly the skill of an  adult .  Also the  couple of  lift-offs were  fun to see . The strong wind may have been giving it a  hand .

  • Hi AQ :-)  Time really has flown.  Can't believe ring & bling day (love that expression BTW) is on monday.  The day before my dad's birthday; so at least the GEMs will be ringed and blinged in time for my faither's 71st.  LOL

Hi Barbara Jean :-)  Hope you have a brilliant 4th of July.  Keep quiet about it being a holiday where you don't go broke buying gifts.  Just don't give the merchants any ideas. ;-)

The rain seem to be a lot less at LG just now, and I can hear a Tawny Owl either boasting about how good its night-vision is, or trying to attract a mate, or defend its territory.  Okay that's quite enough either ors!  Here's a picture.

  • Thanks Lynette and happy 4th to everyone. As a Brit living in the US it's a day to keep my accent to myself!! lol. No, it is such a nice Holiday, the local Town has a parade and it is so good to see everyone bursting with patriotic pride.

EJ is currently having a snack on the left over fish while all the chicks snooze.

  • Hallo All. Thanks for July 4 wishes!  I'm going to start my with Wimbledon and end it watching fireworks. Currently EJ is eating while chicks are snoozing. I guess you have to grab it while you have a minute's peace.

  • 3.30am and one of the chicks has woken up and decided it wanted to be fed but didn't bother getting up! So is lying there, with EJ feeding it
Edit- now that has woken the other 2 up and they look like they fancy an early morning bite

  • EJ has just left the nest.  The chicks are enjoying an early morning snooze, or in avifauna terms: a bit of a lye in.  LOL

  • And with a mighty gust of wind.  The day cam is on.  The chicks are stirring; looking forward to another day of fabulous fish and wonderful wingercising.

  • Just came back in from the garden to see what I thought were Odin and EJ on the nest, but no!! It's two chicks up and about.   (Love the "ring and bling" term too - I've a feeling we'll be using that again next year.)
