Evening/morning all:
Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage? Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!! Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car. They've just completed the repairs.
OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!
Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!) They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail. It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games.... Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....
AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months. I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."
Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.
Murray lost the first set, 6 -4 ... boo hoo!
Yes, Annette, its definitely a guy thing that men love huge screens - we bought one which was yards, well it seemed like it anyway, yards bigger than the old set, and he looked at it glumly when we set it up, as he wanted it to be bigger - I said "whatever size it was, you'd want it to be bigger....". Good idea to get an idea of what it will look like in your room - I measured up several times and put pieces of paper the right length onto the TV media unit thingy, to see how big it would be. Are you going to put yours on the wall?
Back to the tennis....
Lindybird: AAACK! Our stupid TV program has gone back to "normal" programming so am listening online - can't see online BBC video "in your area" (double AAACK) or apparently on any other allegedly live-video channel right now. Not exactly the sport to listen to; oh well. Telly will be on new "media cabinet." I'm putting the tape on the wall immediately behind it to see how large the profile will be. We are now 4-3 for Murray in the second set.
Afternoon all,
Thanks for all the chat and pics etc.
BrendaH : Sorry about your neighbours death. It must have been quite a shock.
Annette : I think it depends what size of room you have for the flat screen tele. If it is too large it tends to dominate the room. Also there is the point that the bigger the screen , the more power it uses. Also plasma teles give off more heat and use more power.
Just watched Holland beat Brazil surprisingly 2-1 in the World Cup. Now watching Murray losing to Nadal. I knew the writing was on the wall when I saw David (the jinx) Beckham in the crowd.
Slight rain this morning but now hot and humid again. We badly need some rain.
Hi all: Oh well, Murray put up a good fight (from what I heard!). NBC online plugged into the match at one point, but as I started watching it, realized it was a one set behind the real play. Soooo frustrating. I called our ISP/cable provider to see if there's a special channel and yes! - there's a Tennis channel - but (he checked for me) it wasn't showing live Wimbledon! Oh brilliant. He also said he'd heard there was some kind of argument between NBC Sports and ESPN, the sport channel. At that point I gave up and went back to listening and thank heaven the announcer was lively and gave great play-by-play commentary and the scores showed up immediately on the computer screen. The finals are always broadcast live so I'll watch Sunday. Got some ironing done while listening (actually more than if I were watching.)
Alan: Plasma is out and don't want what we get to dominate the room (wonder if they make slipcovers for flat screen tellys.) They mentioned the Beckhams during the radio coverage of Wimbledon; didn't realize they were bad news for Murray!
Off out to garden now. Take care all.
Annette: Sorry you missed some of the tennis - it was exciting, but sadly Murray was beaten by a Nadal on top form - he is the No. 1, after all.
OG: That link to the sad, bad news was very sad - people are so selfish and greedy. Sorry to hear it could be Thursday before your problems are able to be resolved - you will have to try and relax without worrying too much until then.
BrendaH: What a shame about your poor neighbour - even doctors do not know how long people have, sometimes. A shock for his family, too. Sorry to hear about it. Thanks for remarks about my hat: hope to 'knock 'em for six' when I go on holiday, but have already been wearing the hat in the garden to break it in- also tried to take my photo in the mirror whilst wearing it, but oh dear! - a project that I will have to experiment with I fear...
Margobird: Another great night out! You will have to have a lay down now, for the weekend, to get up the energy to go to another concert next week! Love that Latin dance music & its so vibrant to see good dancers throwing themselves around.
Went to the Opticians on a lovely sunny morning - also did the other errands and came home for lunch with the new glasses, minus the sunglasses, as they had made an error, they said, and they wern't ready yet.... Then, when showing Husband how stylish I was, (he said all the right things so got Brownie points for that), and remarking upon the frames of said new glasses, looked at them and found that there was a bit of the embellishment at the side of the frame missing..... aaaaaargh! Now will have to go back not only to collect the sunglasses, but to complain/hand the new ones back in again to be sorted out. Watch this space for the rest of this ongoing saga...
My neighbour is still in Hospital with no sign yet of returning: I fear that they very rarely discharge people at weekends, so she has been there for a week already since she fell down, & it could be longer now.
Nearly tore my hair out tonight, as was cooking (in the Kitchen, naturally) watching/listening to the Murray match on the TV in the dining room (next door to kitchen) and running across the hall every now and then to the Study (on other side of the hall & f a r away from kitchen as can be....) to hear the ospreys shrieking as EJ brought a fish in, just as I got to a crucial part of cooking my pork chops & onions, and Murray reached the make or break part of his match..... nearly ruined dinner, missed part of the tennis, and was trying to put pics on here.... oh! what we do to watch ospreys! Would have been OK if Husband hadn't been going out and requested an early meal tonight. Can I go back to bed now and have today again ???
Lindybird you did make me laugh with all the multi-tasking. I know the feeling. I was trying to cook the dinner and watch Andy Murray, fortunately I was not on the web as the table was needed for dinner. Will have to get another table so I don't have to pack everything away. Everything stops for ospreys I think. Shame Andy Murray just could not cope with Nadal today. He is such a strong player and although Andy tried everything he knew today it was just not good enough but at least he justified his seeding at number 4.
Shame about your glasses but glad your sun hat has hit the right spot with your OH.
I loved the dancing last night how I wish I could do the same. We are both shattered tonight and will be having a very quiet weekend. Not often OH admits to being tired but came in saying he felt tired tonight.
It must be tough for your neighbour old people really don't like to be away from their home do they. As my Mun and Dad got older they did not really want to go out other than shopping. I just think they feel safe in their own surroundings so unfortunate that your neightbour fell at home.
Margobird
Greetings to all! Haven't had time to visit this blog all week - peeking in att the osps as often as possible. It's been interesting to hearr what you've all been up to.
OG Sorry your son has a problem. Hugs for you and prayers for a satisfactory outcome. It's very distressing when there's nothing you can do to help and I sympathise totally with your feeling that if you're not sleeping you might as well be up.
Had my regular visit to the hairdresser this morning. I usually just have a tidy up but decided today that I would have sides shortened - OH hasn't even noticed! (He's had other things on his mind - we went today to make enquiries about mobility scooters and riser chairs, both of which would make such a difference to his life, but the initiative had to come from him.)
Evening all: Still have more ironing to do (for telly tonight?). We've just spent ages putting on the sliding screen door to the patio door - didn't want to do it while contractors were wandering around the house/property with power (not pink!) tools, lumber, etc. And now it's getting warmer in the evenings, so we want to leave the patio door open without having to worry about moths, raccoons, possums, skunks, ec., popping in to watch telly with us or share dinner.
Lindybird: Part of last year's kitchen redesign included taking out the wall between the kitchen and the living room - open plan now - which means I don't have to miss the nightly news/weather forecast on telly. It's nice. I used to get frustrated hearing something interesting, then have to rush around the corner to watch it while things burned on the cooktop, then rush back again to stir stuff, then back to telly again.
Lovely afternoon here with normal summer afternoon breeze starting up. Managed to feed roses, etc., this morning. Now back up to do stuff with loopy vines.
Thank you to ALL of you for your messages about our neighbour's sudden death. It was a second marriage for both of them ( 30 years ago) and they each brought three daughters to their marriage, who were all there last night, with 4 of their OH and three grand children so we were happy to let some of them occupy our spare bedrooms for the night. It is so hard to see their grief.
We have spent today doing our promised 'charity work'. It was so hot and there has been no rain yet. It should have taken an hour to come back home, but the traffiic was so heavy, it took us nearly two hours. Trouble is we have to do the same both tomorrow and Sunday.
I couldn't watch the Murray match, but Nadal is a brilliant tennis player. Andy is still young enough to have mant more chances. Was also sorry to see that Laura Robson, our junior, lost her semi final match.
OG, will continue to remember you in my prayers and thoughts and that the outcome is what you hope for.
Margo, That is the right kind of tiredness, after you have enjoyed yourself so much. So pleased you enjoyed the 'Dance Show'.
Linda, Sorry about your new specs. I now have to wear specs for driving, so I had a pair of prescription sun glasses made and I left them in the Warwick motorway service area last Sunday, so will now have to get another pair !
Must go. I have just been asked for the use of our bedrooms again for tonight as they, understandably don't want to leave their Mother yet. I doubt if I will have chance to sign on tomorrow morning, so hope you all have a good day. Sleep Well.
Phew! What a hot day, despite a strong breeze – a southerly off the Firth. Done a bit of watering (my Dad would have said you can’t have a “bit” of something liquid, it must be a “drop”!) - just the things yesterday’s rain didn’t reach. Thanks again for all kind thoughts and prayers. We have made arrangements to go up north part of next week, meanwhile Son has Daughter#2 and SiL nearby.
Annette – pleased to hear you at least got some live viewing from Wimbledon today. Have argued for years with OH over screen sizes – we think of the whole room, they just think of the screen – in other words they don’t see the “big picture”!!! Congratulations on the ironing so far. We put our fly screens up at the dining room patio doors today – but they just hang, nothing fancy, and although the fresh air was great at lunchtime, the wind made them rattle rather, so we ended up closing the doors and switching on the fan. I hope you succeed with taming your vines!
Alan – although we had quite a wet day Thursday, with this wind it dried fast, so OH was able to mow this afternoon – it hadn’t grown much overall, but had developed whiskers here and there.
Lindybird – sorry about the glasses mission – why can’t they get things right first time? (don’t try to answer that!). Don’t know whether to be glad or sad that your neighbour is still in hospital – hopefully they will assess how she will cope (or not) at home, but on the other hand old people do fret so away from their familiar surroundings. I know we women are experts at multi-tasking, but I think you were maybe trying to do one task too many while cooking tea!
Patriciat – good to see you posting again – glad you have been seeing the little giants on the nest! So pleased your OH has decided to look at mobility equipment – I am grateful for all the things I have. How have the dogs been doing in the recent competitions?
BrendaH – so good that you are able to help with beds for the neighbour’s poor grieving family – a blessing to them and probably good for you to be able to feel you are doing something for them. But do take care with all you are doing in this hot weather over the weekend.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
