Weekly Chat Sunday June 27, 2010

Evening/morning all:

Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage?  Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!!  Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car.  They've just completed the repairs.

OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!

Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!)  They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail.  It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games....  Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....

AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months.  I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."

Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.

  • Morning all: Quick pop in since I need to go do the roses early this morning and catch the guy in charge to ask him about some problems with Peace and Brigadoon, who is looking especially poorly.

OG: Every time I turned over during the night I thought about you. Take care of yourself.  Big hugs.

Will catch up with everyone else later.

  • Hello, All.    Just waved 'bye to Friend who comes to Cinema with me: we went to see "Letters to Juliet" which is an unashamedly romantic bit of fluff, but was great fun to watch:  the heroine was the same actress who plays the young girl in "Mamma Mia", although in this film she plays someone a bit more mature of course. The beautiful scenes of Italy are great, and the film for us was stolen by the performance of Vanessa Redgrave, who is luminous throughout. (although when we did our sums and decided she was meant to be someone of 66 ish, unfortunately she looks more like 80 ish or more which didn't seem quite right). A good afternoon in the cinema and we only ate half a packet of jelly babies between us....

AQ:   Know what you mean by the problem with your emails - these technical things drive me crazy!   OH hears me cussing and says you will put yourself through these problems with technology but if it were up to him, we wouldn't even be online...    Just love that phrase:  "The Theory of Insufficient Reluctance..." have written that one down!

auntie:    Great that your Mum is now nearer her friends - it makes a big difference when you can have more visitors, it will help with her recovery no end.  My old towels are all used for our dog's feet and/or his bathtime.

Brenda:     that phrase --  "went to Bassenthwaite, Glaslyn oh, and also to Wimbledon to see Murray...."  I'm so green with envy you could grow a tree on me!!  How wonderful!  Did enjoy the match on TV & looking forward to his battle with Nadal now.

  • .....a bit more, as I was interrupted by the return of EJ to the nest....

OG:     Thanks for telling me about the new 'Poetry Corner' on the site: I have investigated it already. I wouldn't have known about it as I don't look at that part of the site so much in summer, as too busy watching osps.   I used to contribute to one of the threads called "Sunsets and Clouds" which some of us have been adding to with our photos... some of the sunsets on there are really lovely.

Margobird:   Your concert sounds great:  I really like Tony Bennet.  He has aged well and still seems to be able to get the notes.  3rd row!   lucky you!   Well worth the bit of travelling to see.  Glad you enjoyed the elephants clip - arn't they cute when small?

Have bought a sun hat for my holidays/hot days here which I am very pleased with - it needed to be one which would fold up into a suitcase, as I always have enough things to carry when travelling, and its one with a brim which you can how should I say it?  -  manipulate into different shapes, but still look smart.  I have had one for years which is just the sort you jam onto your head when on the beach, but its a bit worse for wear and definitely not smart enough to go shopping/sightseeing in.  Now I can be the 'bees knees' as my Gran used to say.

Will stop rabbiting on now, except to say that it seems appropriate that various of us admit to having 'dust bunnies' in our houses, when everyone knows that bunnies do tend to multiply somewhat!

  • Hooray, got on here at last...server problems again I think. Couldn't even get on via emails, but it just suddenly went on to the blog from the camera page.

Sorry to hear you need good thoughts OG, mine are on their way, but hoping you don't need them any more.

Brenda, it sounds like you've been whizzing round the whole country!

Have at last booked some weeks off from work, I think it's safe to leave my boss now, although two weeks at once would be too stressful for him I think.  One week at home week after next, one week in Boat of Garten beginning of August, and one week in September when OH has to go and care for his mum while his sister is bird/animal watching in Africa, lucky her.

Is dust bunny an American term? I like it.  When my nephew was 10 he was hiding from his mum and went under our bed, came out covered in dust, sooooo embarrassing!

  • Keep having trouble getting on here today - seem to keep having to "take it by surprise" to get into RSPB by suddenly swooping in from another site!  More soon, but this is just a quick one about some more sad, bad news about wildlife:

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Afternoon all:

Alan: Hope you didn't create too much havoc at Tesco - did you wear your flak suit?

Margobird: Do you ever stay home any more?  :-)  Glad to hear Tony B still very much the performer and singing so well.

BrendaH: Wimbledon for the Murray match?  Lucky dog!  Are you going back for the Nadal/Murray match?

Auntie: Your temp is around 68F and hot, eh?  I pass my old towels on to my daughter for the horses, but they have to be pretty ratty by then.  Nice that your Mom now back in her social circle, which makes a lot of difference.

TerryM: Yes, we use dust bunnies here - they aren't nearly as cute a real bunnies, but are easier to vacuum up.

Lindybird: I like Vaness Redgrave (and especially Maggie Smith - I can watch anything she is in).  Will keep an eye out for the movie when it comes to Netflix, since I'm sure OH wont want to see romantic fluff.

OG: Also had a hard time reaching the page today.  Don't look for me on the poetry page; suspect Lindybird will be there!  Good to see you.

    Take care all; back later.

  • After a hot and sunny day, it is now extremely humid.

Annette; No I won't be at the Nadal/Murray match. I wish.  We had already agreed to help. for the next three days, at Aylesford Priory in Kent and the forecast says we could have heavy thundery showers, so we could get drenched !

Linda, You will not only be the 'bees knees' in your new sun hat, but you will 'knock 'em for six'.

Today started as a very happy day, but soon changed just after lunch, when our lovely next door neighbour died. He had terminal cancer, but was not expected to die yet.

    Look after Yourselves and Yours.

  • BrendaH - so sorry to hear news that your lovely neighbour passed away suddenly.  That is really very sad and even if a death is expected there are still shockwaves when the day comes.  Hugs to you from me and I'm sure from many others when they next look in.  Emmax

  • A quick read before I spend the day at archives. A bit chilly this morn, frost on the lawn, currently (8.30 am) only 3.6 C, overnight min was 2 C. My thoughts with OG - hope your problems are over and BrendaH - sorry to hear about your lovely neighbour.

  • Have had an awful time getting on this evening so keeping this short; not sure if I can even do fish counts at LG and LOTL. We'll see.  Did not get to see main rose dude today, but Brigadoon is looking marginally better.  Then went out shopping for flat-screen telly with OH; we came back with our eyes spinning and took naps!

BrendaH: Sad about your neighbor - oh dear.  AQ: Have fun at the archives! (well, an interesting time anyway). Hallo to everyone else and  have a nice Friday if I can't get back on tonight...  OG: More hugs to you.
