Evening/morning all:
Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage? Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!! Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car. They've just completed the repairs.
OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!
Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!) They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail. It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games.... Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....
AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months. I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."
Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.
Hey, AQ, no worries!!! I just thought Mount Conner (called Attila by the aborigine people) was a phenomenal place. I was really drawn to it. Awe-inspring beauty. The program called it the geographical and spiritual centre of Australia. When you were on that site, did you happen to read this great article about Australia's natural history -- geology, winds, people, etc.? http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/how-the-earth-changed-history/4440/05#tab-blog-1 I'm really into Earth's natural history and human development.
Everyone:
While I'm blathering on about this...Have any of you bloggers participated in the Genographic Project, a research study conducted by National Geographic? They are gathering the DNA of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. They analzye this DNA in order to trace the migration patterns of our ancient ancestors. They are studying where we all come from and how we are all related. Here's the basic info: https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/lan/en/index.html
Here's how someone can participate. You have to pay a fee of $99.95 (U.S. dollars), and they send you a kit including a swab to use on the inside of your mouth. After you swab your mouth to collect your DNA, you return it to them in a special transport tube. They analyze your DNA, identify your very specific genetic group of early ancestors -- your "deep ancestry" -- and send you a detailed report that shows you exactly where they came from and their early migration route around the world (your genetic lineage). Your results are kept anonymous in the study. Here's the info: https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/journey.html
They are building a fascinating migratory history of the human species -- instead of ospreys. LOL LOL I soooo wish I had an extra $100 to participate. Unfortunately, I have to make money right now, instead of spend it. Sigh... Hope I haven't bored anyone.
AQ: Your little bears are lovely. My Mom made me a similar knitted bear once, and now that she has passed away, it is one of my most treasured possessions. I keep it locked up with my most important documents, photos, etc. So very glad that you're getting a good rain!
OG: Glad your boiler installation went well. I soooo enjoyed the snake and frog pictures. The Earth produces such spectacular creatures! dibnlib: So glad about the sea eagles. Hope the project is successful.
Annette: Hope the book club chat was fun and interesting. re: "Being muddled." I'm usually a very organized and high-functioning person. But for the last two weeks, I've been uncharacteristically goofy! I've forgotten very important things, lost things, slept badly, had strange dreams, and have been very unproductive. I think it's a weird moon or an odd planetary alignment. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. LOL
Lindybird: Hope your neighbor's operation goes well. Poor woman. Please send me some of the raspberries from the allotment. LOL I really love raspberries. Used to pick wild ones when I was little. Walked around with stained and scratched hands. The garden photo was just lovely.
george g: Please send lemon and ginger crumble. YUM! Heron77: We're always glad to hear from you whenever you stop by. Enjoy reading your humour on the Daily thread.
Alan: Methinks the media expect too much from everyone -- except themselves. :-) LOL
Margobird: MORE DANCING! Good for you!!! I remember the Pet Shop Boys.
Ok, sorry for the long posts, but I probably won't be around tomorrow. Have to accomplish major cleaning mission over the next couple of weeks so I can start working. Everyone have a nice day!
Good morning all!
Loved the Beaky pics DjoanS. Reminded me 'bout last winters horrible snowing and colds here - I did something very bad. It is not allowed to feed birds in balconies but just couldn't resist when I saw three very cold looking magpies, so I put some cat's dried food in a cup to my balcony (cat didn't mind, it was not her favourite brand) and in no time those magpies found the cup and emptied it very quickly. I kept feeding them through the coldest part of winter and kept my fingers crossed that nobody saw what I was doing
Lindybird, what a lucky neighbour to be helped with you and the others, hope her operation was successful. And please, if you have raspberries to give out, I would love some. Raspberries are my favourite berries, especially the wild ones
Love that Hibiscus colour, OG and glad your boiler thing went well and the workmen weren't messy
Cute little bears, AQ, must show that pic to my sis, she loves to have new knitting ideas. I also have my first teddy still, it's "factory made" but still very dear to me, I had it as my first Christmas present when I was 7 months old, so it is quite old now LOL
Margobird, I remember dancing the night away in disco years back when with Pet Shop Boys' music
Oh Diane, heat, humidity and storms... oh dear. I would love to participate that Genographic Project if I had an extra hundred $. And you can never bore us ;)
Hope Annette's book club is a success
Now off to Daily, have nice day all
my photos in flickr
Hey all: Everyone just left and maybe it was the chocolate ice cream that woke me up! Bought six different varieties of Haagan Daz and a variety of cookies and we tried them all. The new Lemon (not a sorbet) got very good reviews, as did the White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle (Diane: Note raspberry!) ; the other four were super yummy too. One of the women is a geologist and brought a really heavy chunk of iron band rock from a hill in northern Michigan. It wasn't a protected site, though she plans to write a letter to the local authorities alerting them to the unusual formation on their doorstep, apparently well known only to rockhounds - and locals kids who like to spray paint their names all over the place!
AQ: Uh-oh. Right. No marker pens on teddies (some of that stuff is potent - during staff meetings at my former job we'd joke about not inhaling when folks were writing notes on the white board).
Diane: Interesting Nat. Geo project - I'd trust them with my DNA before a medical facility or government agency! :-) I go through periods of not sleeping well (just exiting one phase, I hope). Maybe it's that pesky humidity! Ugh. Talking of raspberries, my neighbor had some in her garden and gave me a few to taste - must be a hybrid since this definitely isn't raspberry climate. Happy housecleaning!
Morning Auntie: Hope your Mom is coming along okay.
What interesting posts in the last few hours! -Ice-cream (yum), frogs, tennis, teddies, new trucks, new boilers, ginger cake (yum), raspberries (double yum), human genographic Projects - you name it, we talk about it here!
Morning, All: Dry here now but rained a lot last evening and night (hooray, waters the garden for me) and its still quite warm so don't need a coat to go out to shops today to investigate the 'Sales' as need new bathtowels etc.
Heard last night that the operation on Neighbours broken arm was abandoned (because of her advanced age?? - don't know) so they decided to set the arm and she may come home today. We have not visited her, although would have done if she had been in the Hosp. any longer than this, as the other neighbours have been making sure she is OK and her nearest relatives have been over to the house to check stuff and take her her 'necessaries' - they live some miles away, but the poor woman who is her sister-in-law had a sad tale to tell as they had been recently on holiday in Devon when her husband had been taken ill and was stuck in the hosp. down there for some weeks. He has now been returned home all that way by ambulance and is recovering at home, so she has two people to worry about now! Such is Life. We shall do what we can to help when our neighbour returns, but as I said she is an independent type, so shall see...
Must go do stuff, Have a Good Day, All.
Goodmonring auntie and all. Thanks for the posts now trying to catch up with everything, bit late today as I had to go out.
Lovely story auntie about the magpies. You know that you gave them a helping and in their time of need and hopefully they survived due to your help.
Margobird
Good morning Tuesday, all! Don't normally say that, but have taken today off work. Vacuumed the whole house today, haven't done it for months LOL. Good job I'm not allergic to dust bunnies! There are so many places for us to keep piles of things that might come in handy some time that it takes ages to clean, even if not very thoroughly - hope you're not all too shocked by this unhouseproud behaviour.
Boss returned last week from his five week break following his stroke, but has just been getting used to being back at a desk, I think he could happily haved stayed away. Seemed a little better yesterday so I decided it was safe to take a day off at last, to catch up with last week's Chat (and vacuum!). Will start this week's later. I see there's lots of flapping on the nest and someone says EJ has brought fish.
Patriat, I hope you've seen the ISS now, we had a good view Friday night and Sunday. If you take about 95 minutes off those early a.m. times you'll get the previous pass. It's much further east than it was in April.
Perhaps we should all put back views of ourselves on here :)) Thinking of dibnlib's pic in her canoe.
Several men here were "growing a beard for England" so now we are out they can shave again. Not OH, though, he's been too lazy to shave for about 25 years now...
Terry in Cumbria
Afternoon all and thanks for all the overnight chat and pics and links,
Raspberries are also my favourite berry and used to pick wild raspberries and make jam when I lived in Scotland. The best ones were the wild honey rasps which were sort of honey coloured and very sweet.
This morning went for a haircut to the nearest Scottish barber who is based about 12 miles away in Oundle. Unfortunately I did not realise he now takes tuesday off so I had to have my hair cut by his assistant. Apparently his boss was collecting all the money he won betting on Germany beating England.
Weather is sunny and warm again. We had some badly needed rain overnight.
Good morning TerryM a day off for you but busy with housework, hope you will leave some time to relax. Nothing wrong with being unhouseproud after all it is a home not a showcase, That's my excuse anyway. I agree we all have piles of things that we think might be useful but very rarely are. I have set days for housework each week and once I have been through every room that is it until the next week apart from keeping it relatively tidy.
Glad your boss is on his way to recovery but as you say perhaps a little early to be back at work..
Afternoon all ... we had really heavy rain yesterday evening and overnight ... cleared to sunshine this morning, but starting to look very black again now. Everything looked and smelled really fresh after the rain though.
TerryM - glad you are getting some well-earned time off, even if you are doing housework. I would echo what margobird said about it being a home not a showcase!
Raspberries ... oooooh yes please, my favourite fruit. OH and I treated ourselves to a scone/jam/clotted cream afternoon tea the other day. The girl behind the counter looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked to change my little pot of strawberry jam for a raspberry one :-)
Well done auntie for sneakily feeding the magpies
OG - glad the new boiler fitting went well. Lovely pics ... but I'll pass on the snakes thank you very much!
Thanks to everyone else for interesting chat etc (This post is getting too long to reply to everyone individually!)
Take care
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!
