Evening/morning all:
Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage? Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!! Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car. They've just completed the repairs.
OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!
Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!) They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail. It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games.... Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....
AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months. I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."
Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.
Don't worry about not posting Heron77 it is a full time job watching ospreys especially with 2 nests to follow and while they are on tne nest there is always something to observe.
I know a lot of us followed Hope the black bear cub's story and I still have a look each day as they update regularly. She is doing well and coming to the feeding station to supplement her diet most days. they have now managed to put a radio collar on her so they can monitor her and find out where she goes. I also follow Gordon Buchanan on his Twitter page. I am not in Twitter myself but he has been filming the bears in Ely and making a film which is scheduled for 2011. He has also managed to film Hope. I am looking forward to seeing this. It amother heartwarming story.
Margobird
Thanks for that news on Hope, margobird. Will also look out for the film by Gordon Buchanan, it sounds good.
Quick morning all (famous last words!) Off with daughter for best part of day; then home for quick dust before book club folks arrive (canceled last week), so back later this evening if not too tired.
AQ Hate to say it, but former pupils at my old convent were called Old Girls (no matter how young they were). Seems emergency gadgets not always used or only in cookie crises. What Nat. Geo. site was that (??) Maybe I'm getting credit for someone else's post. Oh my, what incredibly cute little teddies. Can you just put on faces with colored pen/marker? (THen you could experiment with expressions, as in :-( or :-o
Lindybird: Hee-hee - a nice twist on the chicken riddle! Thanks for more pretty flowers also geography lesson - I lose track of those little islands. I do know "Have some Madeira,m'dear." (Noel Coward??)
OG: Suspect AQ is waiting for clothes to dry properly before she does the ironing; speaking of which, I have a pile lurking over the machines. Hope boiler install has gone well.
Margobird: You mad gadabout - more dancing!! :-) Don't know the Pet Shop Boys. OH was filling out a crossword yesterday and when I asked if he needed help, he said it was all about rock bands. Told him if it was later than the Beatles or Stones, not to bother asking me. Thanks for Hope update!
Alan: We have four Solanum; they're supposed to like the sun, but ours in the shade do much better. We keep them sort of organized.
Nice to see you Heron, but also see you on Daily Update, etc. so don't worry about chatting here.
OK, off to hose myself down, brush hair, and off to see the world - well, local world anyway. Take care all!
Annette: Think that somewhere along the line you have been muddled with Diane, who was warning us all not to go to the Pete's Pond Site, which is a Nat. Geographic, as it may have a virus.
--Like the idea of 'hosing yourself down' - must do that more often, myself!
Hope the Book Club meeting goes well.
Like anything Gordon Buchanan does, he is so unassuming

Me too dibnlib he is such a gentle soul.
Afternoon all just back from Vane Farm stocking up with more bird food. Feeding the birds is now costing me more than it cost to feed myself but I still managed to have enough to treat myself to a cuppa and a piece of lemon and ginger crumble. There was a bit on the news this morning showing another intake of white tailed eagles from Norway going to a secret location in Fife to become aclimatised to the east coast.
OG my son informed me that he had met your son when he was on the phone to me yesterday.
I hope the media don't start to put all the pressure on Andy Murray now that the English team are out of the world cup, up to now Wimbleton has been taking second place and there has been very little said about the british gents pairs beating the No.1 seeds.

george g : Interesting about the white tailed sea eagles. Hopefully you will be able to see some of them in your area. I was just thinking the same about Andy Murray and the media. He has cruised through so far with the attention being elsewhere. Methinks the media expect too much.
Don't know much about them, but have seen white tailed Sea Eagles on the TV and they are magnificent. Hope they are successful with the project.
Feel sorry for Murray as there is far too much pressure on him to perform well - it would be too much for anyone, even though he seems ambitious. Am already fed up with the inquest on England's football performance. (although I must say I was incandescent about the disallowed goal, what was all that about? - score should have been 4-2)
Wonderful, wonderful scent of fresh rain – started about 5pm and still gently falling – no need to water garden tonight! Gas man and his sparky finished the job –very smart new boiler in and working. Thanks for good wishes for this. They were very clean working, so won’t take long to restore everything in the kitchen.
Lindybird – glad you enjoyed your morning walk - looking forward to Cow Parsley picture. I do hope your neighbour’s operation was successful. Will you be visiting her in hospital? Loved your picture of garden Thingummies, Whatsisnames etc! Sorry, can’t come up with the names this time – white looks a bit like Meadowsweet – maybe it’s an Astilbe? Ours isn’t quite out yet, but I guess we should be a little behind you. I couldn’t get pictures to upload this morning – may have another try this evening.
Margobird – thanks for update on Hope – I knew from the daily blog they were having a try Sunday evening – where did you get the update that they were successful?
Annette – I hope you enjoyed time with daughter and that nothing gets in the way of Book Club tonight.
Dibnlib – I too like Gordon Buchanan – excellent photographer and so respectful towards his animal subjects. His urban fox reports were fantastic.
GeorgeG – we usually buy the bird food mail order, but shall get the next lot at LG in July. Big yellow feet on those juvenile White Tailed Eagles! I see Andy Murray is through to Q-finals! I think I remember the same thoughts being shared here this time last year, that the press should just leave him to get on with it.
Will now try a picture - still at Butterfly World, but now in the Reptile house, this is Mrs Python (she does have a name but I can't remember it) using her Albino companion as a pillow:
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
