Weekly Chat Sunday June 27, 2010

Evening/morning all:

Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage?  Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!!  Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car.  They've just completed the repairs.

OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!

Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!)  They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail.  It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games....  Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....

AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months.  I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."

Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.

  • Lindybird - you snuck in again!  Very striking white Clematis in your green corner.  But what about the Drama next door?  Do tell!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Gorgeous photos of the butterflies, OG!  Have enjoyed them.  No time to tell the tale of Next Door:  I'm not dressed yet, even, and have to put out the laundry and go out visiting shortly!  Will reply later......

  • Good morning all from a very hot Poole this morning.     Thanks for all the pics and news.

Had an awesome time at the Al Green concert last night. Surprised myself by daning for the whole of the performance.  If I had children they would probably been so embarrassed but who cares we had a great time.  Music of my youth and still the best.  Legs a bit tired today with all that dancing.  Going to watch the football later on this afternoon so can have a good rest then.  How I wish I had all the energy I had in my younger days.

Off now to catch up with all the chat from yesterday.  Have a good day all.

  • Morning all - a beautiful summer morning here ... not too warm and no breeze ... yet. No chance of water restrictions here ... our water comes from Kielder Water, and the chances of that running low are virually nil. In fact, they have sent road tankers of water to drought stricken areas in previous years!

OG - beautiful butterfly pics ... I love the one with the transparent wings .... never heard of them before. Good luck with the boiler fitting ... I had a new one fitted last month ... it went very smoothly and I hope yours does too.

    Alan - handbag/shoes score ... very funny

Diane - a new computer sounds good :-) Leave the strenuous stuff until the cooler weather!

margobird - I hope you had a lovely time at your show yesterday

Lindybird - pretty c;ematis pic ... I like white flowers very much. Looking forward to the Drama tale later!

Thanks to all for chat etc

    Take care

  • Good morning DjoanS we had a tremendous time.  Last night I felt 40 years younger, today I feel at least 20 years older but it was worth it.

  • Just a heads up: I went to the Pete's Pond National Geographic site. My security program threw up an alert warning me that it had blocked an "intrusion attempt" of "high severity" on that site. That means that something attacked my computer. Even if it was a false alarm, it still froze my computer and I had to reboot, so you may want to avoid that site.

  • MARGOBIRD  you obviously had a good workout at the concert.

LINDYBIRD  You are teasing us about this drama, it had better be worth it LOL

Did anyone see on morning tv that they want ideas for more friendly names for insects rather than the Latin names. The idea being that if they become endangered we will be more concerned. I think it is a good idea as I am sure we can identify more with things if we can pronounce their name. Off now to do some weeding, a little on a daily basis is the plan

  • Good morning dibnlib yes a good work out indeed, probably one that I need to do more often.

Didn't see that on the TV but I agree it would be a good idea to have more friendly names so we can indentify things more easily.

  • Hi Diane thanks for the warning.  Hope you are not having too many storms again, although you say heat and humidity still high.
