Weekly Chat Sunday, June 20,2010

Hi everyone. Tired from long day; just saw LOTL blog and not sure I can watch the cam. :-(

Off to check out previous posts.

  • Barbara Jean and Diane Your storms sound horrific,  So sorry for all those affected.  Keep safe if you can.

Lindybird (and others) Love the pics - what a faithful dog!

On the sporting front, OH watches all the World cup matches (he can't do much but watch TV because of his conditiion).  He's not into tennis and I can take or leave both tennis and football.  Here we are very thrilled and excited that Graham McDowell won the US Open - first European to do so in 40 Years.  And he's such a pleasant, unassuming guy.

Must try to get some pics of our countryside - it's good to have an idea what others see on their walks/ from their kitchen windows.

Off to get the day a bit further advanced (dog training this morning) and the grass needs cutting.  Joy unconfined!

  • Morning all ... another lovely day here, sunny and warm, but we may get a shower later.

OG - I can't grow streptocarpus or primulas for allergy reasons either ... and I can't grow tomatoes ... I am allergic to the foliage, ... but not the fruit! Your busy day sounds lovely.

Grumbleweed - lucky you seeing a pine marten ... I've only ever seen one 'live' on a webcam!

Lindybird - lovely photos of the fields

Thanks to all for chat pics etc

    Take care

  • Patriciat – sounds like a very busy day for you again.  Your OH must get very frustrated by his disability – although I am disabled, I can do some things – although sometimes have to be “rescued” part way through if I get stuck.

DjoanS – I once had a very serious reaction to tomato plants, working in the greenhouse with the door shut and getting full force of the foliage as I removed the side shots – swelling in the throat and stopped breathing.  I stopped eating them raw for that season, then gradually re-introduced them and am ok now – but still very careful around the plants which OH now tends under supervision, although I do water and feed them.  Son is allergic to raw tomatoes (swollen lips) but ok if they are cooked (the tomatoes, that is, not the lips!).

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Just found some amazing Pine Marten pics on the Huntly Peregines site.

As you liked the countryside photos, you might like this one, which I have labelled "I'll follow my Dad to the Ends of the Earth if he wants".....

    Lovely pic Linda.

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics. I hope all the storms have died down in the US. We are fortunate to have excellent weather here at the moment.

I decided to clean the car this morning before it got too hot to do anything so that I have the rest of the day to watch ospreys, tennis or football and walk Hamish of course. LadyP is off to her sisters for the day so I am able to choose my own timetable.

Odin with a fish - catch up later.

  • Good morning Alan sounds like a good day to me.  Don' know what is going to happen with the football but let's hope England can get their act together.

  • Hope you enjoyed your day of 'making up your own timetable'  Alan.   See England finally managed to scrape through to the next stage.   We had an England flag in the front window, and I thought I'd have to take that down today!

Been to Eldest son's house today, he lives about 20 minutes away.  Had a call about 'what are all these things growing in my garden, please?'   -- they are trees!!   Lots and lots of them, all at various stages - some only 3" high, and some 12 ft. high, hiding behind the existing conifers !  There must be a tree nearby which is sending over seeds regularly.  We pulled up the small ones, and chopped down the large ones.  Then put weedkiller on all the paths and around the walls. His palm tree, which is about as high as the upstairs windows, is apparently dead after our awful frozen winter this year. Now I have to have a conference with him and his father about what to do about it - I suggested cutting it in half and hanging a lamp from the remainder...  don't know.  It is only a tiny garden but at least its easy for him to keep, or in theory it was....

All our local roads are choked up this week as there is the annual Cheshire Show on, very popular especially in view of the fine weather.  It's like 'cone City' , they are everywhere, and the roads are full of cars.

Must go and water the garden if its going to stay dry.   'Bye

  • Forgot to say:    International Whaling Commissions Annual Meeting results:

    -- sorry, but its depressing.

  • Evening all dentist visit so expensive.  OH and I both had things that wanted doing and it came to just under £300 and that was only 3 fillings, hygienist, and the original check up.  Unfortunately we have no NHs dentists in this area. Have been going to this present dentist for over 20 years and he used to be a NHS dentish but it is all private now.  Didn't get back home until nearly 6.00.  Had a lovely salad for our dinner, flopped out on the settee and started watching the match between Mahut and Isner.  We have been watching and watching and it is now 20.50 and they are 57-58 games.  How on earth do they summon up all this energy.
