Hi everyone. Tired from long day; just saw LOTL blog and not sure I can watch the cam. :-(
Off to check out previous posts.
Would have loved to hear that music, TerryM. He is a clever composer. The other day I finally caught up with the recordings I'd made ages ago of the BBC Young Musician of the Year concerts: wonderful stuff, such clever young people. It was won by a girl pianist, who was only 16 years old, but the judges said that her talent left them flabbergasted! She was so modest, too, and very shy when not in front of her beloved piano.
george g: Great picture of your rogue seagull - he is a handsome fellow. They can be very persistent when they think there is 'free' food, though.
patriciat: Glad to hear you finally figured out the Bird Feeding Station, I was imagining you scratching your head in puzzlement!
Annette: Laughed at the thought of you creeping about in dark glasses, hoping not to be seen. In my experience, its only when you pop down to the shops in old trousers with tousled hair and a wild look in the eye, just to get something you had forgotten, that you meet the smartest most glamorous person you know and can't avoid them. Those flowers are only prickly looking not really prickly at all, just very pretty - they are a relative of the onion plant which also has globe like flowers when they go to seed. Now I'm waffling as while I type, I can't for the life of me think of the name of them - it's too late at night.....
Nice pic, dibnlib, made me laugh.
Must go to bed now as lots to do tomorrow. Night All.
Well, the day was a bit strange, but excellent! Set out to have lunch in the Mill on the Fleet Café, then attend 2pm acoustic set there as part of Summer Festival at Gatehouse. Discovered time was not as advertised on web, handwritten poster said 12noon. It didn’t actually start till 12:30, but we needed lunch, so had soup and sandwich. We went up to the Gallery in time for the third performance there, which was very good and very interesting – poems by Hugh MacDiarmid set to music. Chatted with the singer, and she recommended another performance at one of the hotels, so we trotted up there and were treated to a couple of hours of blues by a guitarist/vocalist and his female singer, which was superb. All Free!! We finished the day with a very good dinner at another hotel, and I confess we had three courses! Not huge portions there, but I very really eat puds, yet was tempted to iced chocolate parfait - after bruschetta and sea bass. OH had stuffed field mushroom, the sea bass and then apricot bread and butter pudding with cream. Have been reading threads and looking at cams since we came in – while he had fathers’ Day phonecalls from Dau#1 and Son (a card from Dau#2 will probably come one day in the week!
DjoanS – lovely picture of the Goldfinch – they are great to watch, and I love the way they chatter away to each other.
Lindybird – thanks for your cheer-up picture too. I hope you enjoyed your walk and Son’s visit – did the girlfriend come with him again? … … reached your later post, see you did have a great walk, and what a virtuous lunch!! … … Alliums is the plant name you are searching for!!!
Dibnlib – pleased Dillon is getting better. Nice for you to have a holiday to look forward to – not long till July now! Lovely picture from Jura.
GeorgeG – thanks for picture of your gull – he has a certain look in his eye, maybe trying to fathom a way in!
Patriciat – pleased you got your bird feeder successfully sorted – I hope the bullfinch will come back for you.
Annette – I hope you are still enjoying your lazy day – pleased there is still space to sit in your being-remodelled garden.
LizLFW – No, didn’t go to Cream of Galloway – haven’t even had one of their ice creams this year, although we can buy them in many places locally.
TerryM – What a lot of music! Hope your boss is back at work by now, so you can relax a bit more.
Auntie – (maybe you’ll be looking in tomorrow morning) rest, relax and enjoy your holiday from work!
This has taken me ages, with interruptions, so that’s all, folks! Goodnight.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hallo all; Lovely day in the garden - well the patio (yes OG, still room to sit and put feet up even though surrounded by trash cans, pots, and various pieces of equipment).
Alan: Loved the up-close-and-personal visit with the Puffin family. Not much room to turn around in that little house - enjoyed watching the other bird that stuck its head in the hole while Mr and Mrs P. were behind the camera after their little outing.
Lindybird: Thankfully, I don't know any glamorous and well-groomed people! But still hate to be caught looking like the Wild Woman of the West. Did manage to make it to Farmer's Market and Trader Joe's without anyone noticing.
Off to shower and rummage for eats; then back to cams and blogs. If the LG still cam was up, I'd be able to get a nightime shot of a headless EJ sitting on the side of the nest. Looks even spookier than in daylight. :-)
Just checked the Bear Den site (Lily and Hope). Hope is doing well. Interestingly, the author of the most recent update revisits the debate about letting nature take its course vs. lending a helping hand that we've seen on various osprey blogs these last few days. They too had a lot of contradictory input and criticism.
Monday all! My summer hols just started and I've been saying that I will sleep the first week and here I am 6.30am LOL Maybe it's due the longest day of the year LOL Sun came up here where I live at 3.45am and will set at 11.02pm and further north it won't go down at all. I just love, love, love this lightness!
So sorry 'bout happenings in Loch of the Lowes and just can't bear to watch although I find everything happening also beautiful in a way :( What a heritage Marge has been giving already
I hope everyone is having a good Monday, chicks in LG are eating (more or less) their breakfast and here is pic taken from a nest near me, two eldest chicks (they are a bit younger than the LG trio) measuring each other up :) Haven't seen serious peckings here 'cause there has been enough fish
my photos in flickr
Happy Summer Solstice to Everyone!!! I hope the longest day of the year finds you joyful, healthy, and blessed with great abundance!
Annette: I often look like the Wild Woman of the Midwest, but the older I get, the more I don't care! LOL By the way, your wild woman comment reminded me, have you ever read Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estes? That's one of my very favorite books. It really changed my life, and I don't use that phrase lightly. I highly recommend it to all.
OG: The music sounds wonderful, and even better that the events were free. Your meal sounds great, too. I would have liked the stuffed mushroom. I'm crazy about mushrooms. Alan: Loved the puffin. They're terrific birds. TerryM: Your choir concert sounds lovely, too! Sorry you're still having to work so hard. GeorgeG: I loved that gull picture! He certainly looks like a rogue. DjoanS: Beautiful goldfinch picture! Lindybird: Glad you had a nice walk and a lovely day. Good that your son visited.
Glad everyone's children gave their fathers some attention today. I'm doing a slow burn about my brother's insensitivity. He didn't send a card or call my Dad today. Not even an email. Usual behavior for him on Father's Day and birthdays. Grrrrrr.
On a happier note, the deer are now visiting the apple tree in the mornings and evenings. So lovely and peaceful to watch them feasting. Hope you all have a wonderful solstice!
Hi, Auntie! I hope you have a wonderful summer holiday!!! You deserve to have a good time. I loved the osprey chick picture.
Hello, Diane! And thanks :) I can't afford to travel abroad so will just do small "things" near home. And I know I will enjoy doing absolutely nothing and totally forget the clock I find it so relaxing. What a shame 'bout your brothers behaviour :( We have our Father's' Day in November, but since my dad passed away two years ago coming autumn, I won't "do" anything then either. Oh dear I sound like a big sloth don't I just LOL
Auntie: Have a wonderful rest - take a nap - don't do a thing! Sunrise here tomorrow (June 21) will be at 5:47 a.m.and will set at 8:15 p.m. No long nights for us (but also no ultra-short days in the winter).
Diane: Haven't read that book; heard about it. Are you going to paint yourself with blue woade (sp?) and dance around the woods? :-)
Hi from Adelaide & the shortest day. Sunrise 7.23 am, sunset 5.11 pm making 9 hr 48 min 19 sec of . . . let's see . . . overcast cool weather. Min this morn 5.6 C, currently 13.8, I wish it would hurry up to the max of 17 as my washing is hanging limply and wetly. Auntie - Hope you have a lovely lazy holiday. Diane - Thank you for the rain but alas it went slightly astray. I was on the phone to my friend in NE suburbs and she claimed it was pouring. Not a drop here (about 20 mins drive away). Oh well, they predict a shower next Fri. (And no, not just in my bathroom.)
Hopeful signs at LOTL. Whatever happens, I prefer to know what happens to Lady rather than she not return from migration one year. I don't think I am callous - it is the cycle of life. She was my first osprey. I have been so lucky to follow her since my visit to LOTL. Meanwhile monsters have invaded the nest at LG !!!
