Morning everyone and welcome to a new week! Last week's Weekly Chat ended with some interesting entries and very interesting links (wonderful pix of swan giving cygnets a ride, courtesy of Lindybird, and, thanks very much Alan; another perspective on those oil-covered pelicans - good news too!). OG: Not rushing and dashing; kids are here and headed to bed early for ultra-early departure. Margobird: Thanks for update on Hope and Lily.
Gather USA/England draw was result of bungle by England goalkeeper?
OG envy you, your delicious carrots, we had some bought from Tescos yesterday and they didn't taste of anything in particular. Unfortunately our garden does not lend itself to growing veg.
News on Dillon is that we came back from vets with more antibiotics and have to go back next Thurs. his lip is definitely improving, just needs a little more time.
Evening dibnlib glad to hear Dillon's lip is improving. Hopefully the anitbiotics will clear it up by next week.
Margobird
dibnlib - we like you, live in Inverness. We grow carrots in tubs, put the tubs high enough so that dreaded carrot fly can't get them, and harvest them small and tasty. I'm going to be really Invernessian now and say 'if we're spared' we can talk next Spring if you are interested :-)
Of course you know where I live, I just remembered the Clachnaharry Inn!!
Pleased to hear that Dillon is improving, dibnlib. Hope the antibio's do the trick.
HEATHER thanks for the carrot tip, may try that next year. Had lunch again at Clachnaharry 2 weeks ago, the pork belly was delicious and the choc fondant we had for pud. The lounge bar was being renovated so will be interested to see the improvement there. love to talk next spring or any time.
Annette thank you i have signed the petition
Lovely woodpecker photo Paula, you are so lucky having 4 in your garden
Diane what does a groundhog look like please? can we have a piccie
Been popping in and out all day (which turned out sunny after a slow start) and now come in to lots of delicious posts – all this and Ospreys too!
Margobird – sorry about your latest fall – hope it is not too painful.
GeorgeG – good to see you again among all your busyness. I wasted some rhubarb earlier this week – an dit had got sugar in! Luckily it was only at the toffee stage, it didn’t get onto the hob and the saucepan was saved by soaking well. We saw our very irregular Greenfinch again today.
Lindybird – we don’t grow strawberries because such good strawbs and rasps from Fife, Angus and Tayside are easily available here. That is a beautiful clematis you have there. Isn’t it frustrating when the power trips out – especially if you are not sure what is causing it? We had a ”transient fault” in a steam oven last year – after about five visits over fifteen months, the final repairer discovered it had been gradually burning out its insides! … Oh! Lovely peony – running out of adjectives for all these flowers!
HeatherB – have a great time with the family in Edinburgh. You’ll have plenty to read when you return!
BrendaH – so pleased the foot is not too bad – but go on being careful.
Annette – enjoy your Saturday, especially catching up with friend.
Dibnlib – pleased that the vet felt Dillon is making progress against his infected lip – I hope all will be well by next Thursday’s visit. Our daughter and her OH sometimes eat lunch at Clachnaharry with friends from work.
Here is a picture of some Irises – nice yellow ones with light brown markings – the disgraceful weak-necked black one is just visible at the bottom of the picture, leaning on a yellow one for support!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Lovely irises, OG! Reluctantly, must sign off until Tuesday evening. Happy viewing everyone. Oh - OG, I was so cocky about having all the ingredients for the gingerbread, then found I was missing the golden syrup. Now which of the family has purloined that, I wonder? Happens all the time. Never mind, I will get some more when I come back from Edinburgh.
England's match was pathetic. I completed my crosswords and sudoku puzzles when it was on.
Dibnlib, pleased to hear that the vet thinks Dillon should be fine with the AB's.
Margo, think positive. You will be going to LG next year.
OG, Lovely Yellow Iris.
Welcome to all New Bloggers. The Daily & Weekly threads are so friendly. And when I am busy or fast asleep, I can "see" what is happening from the reports, pics & videos. Adelaide is 8 1/2 hours ahead of UK time and, from our mid-afternoon, I can watch dawn rising over LG.
Djoan - I am sure plenty of veggies cancel any harm from pavlova. LOL
Paula - What a gorgeous woodpecker.
Lindybird - Lovely pics of flowers. You may find me visiting your garden if I get to travel overseas again. LOL.
Alan - It’s great that your daughter appreciates your interest on ospreys. I believe the Aussies are playing some sort of football tonight in that other SA. Big fuss about large screen outdoors in Rundle Mall. Brrrr. Lots of hotels are expecting crowds. So much hype, locals are expecting miracles.
Margobird - Thank you for ringing LG for the fish numbers. Nine yesterday!!!!!!!!! I do hope you will be able to volunteer. When (not if) you do, of course, we expect lots of info.
Evening/morning all: Hectic day here although I didn't go anywhere. But got a bee in my bonnet about my closet - granddaughter's graduation dress and wedding dress hanging in it and taking up vast amounts of space, so reorganized it all so I don't have to fight my way to my shoes! Garden/wall/drain contractors finished up for the week; back on Monday, but they all disappeared at one point to watch the replay of the France-Mexico game (Alan: You'll be pleased to know they were all as thrilled as you that Mexico won! Incidentally, I didn't watch any of the games, but any opinions on the U.S./Slovenia score?
Lindybird: Those peonies look just like the ones I paid a ridiculous amount for last week! Heather: We have to plant veggies in raised beds with chicken wire at the base to keep the gophers and moles out of them. My friend grows tomatoes in a half wine-cask; that works well too. dibnlib: Good news about Dillon, and the petition. Did someone mention choc fondant?? OG: Don't be too hard on that black iris; it's trying. AQ: Thanks for repeating your time zone vis a vis the UK; it'll be easier to remember you're 8.5 hours ahead of them and I'm 8 behind. Off to watch the nest.
