Morning everyone and welcome to a new week! Last week's Weekly Chat ended with some interesting entries and very interesting links (wonderful pix of swan giving cygnets a ride, courtesy of Lindybird, and, thanks very much Alan; another perspective on those oil-covered pelicans - good news too!). OG: Not rushing and dashing; kids are here and headed to bed early for ultra-early departure. Margobird: Thanks for update on Hope and Lily.
Gather USA/England draw was result of bungle by England goalkeeper?
Good morning dibnlib don't worry there is so much going on now it is hard to keep up. Is it today Dillon goes to the vet again. If it is hope all went well and your purse is not suffering.
Margobird
26° and thin cloud. And what a hot night – I couldn’t sleep. Just sent OH shopping, so hope to catch up here. He got an email from our ISP today that we are approaching our monthly limit – I wonder why?
Annette – I hope you find a quieter eating place in Long Beach – and manage all your messages in LA (sorry, lapsed into local vernacular – “messages” is local expression for errands). Our water feature is quite tiny, but the birds seem to love it for drinking (although they have their own) and bathing. Our veggie beds aren’t huge, but how ever little you grow, it is very special when freshly picked from your own garden.
Diane – how lovely to share your fruit with little Groundhog and the Deer. Sorry you are so tired – hope you haven’t been overdoing the cleaning mission in the heat and humidity – do take care of yourself.
AQ – I don’t like people fixing their hair and makeup in public places - very unseemly. A Brownie point for making your dental appointment!
Jeanette – great for you and Lorraine volunteering at LG – enjoy – the folks there this year are lovely.
Lindybird – our first potatoes are only just flowering – when did you plant yours? We always plant on Good Friday, so I think that was 2nd April. Beautiful Poppy – and I didn’t notice the weeds until you mentioned them, so I looked for them! Enjoy your gardening day today.
Paula – welcome - great to see you here! How lucky you are to have all those woodpeckers visiting – and a brilliant photo! (some of us here do have an exclamation point obsession!!!) Please keep coming on here, and showing us your pictures.
Margobird – have you had the stitches out yet? Just seen – according to DjoanS they are out – wonder where she found that?
DjoanS – I think carvery is quite healthy – especially without the roasties – no comment on the pavlova!
Fast as I write, new posts appear, so will leave it at that.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hi Paula - loved your Woodpecker photo, and how lucky you are to have 4 visiting! We do get one occasionally here, but he seems to know only to come when the camera is not handy....
margobird: Oh, you hav'nt fallen over again have you! Do please take care... Glad those stitches are no more, hope that you feel better now.
Its started raining lightly here, now, so more gardening later...
DjoanS I think it is on the weekly chat and I might have mentioned in passing on the daily chat. So many posts it is difficult to keep up with things but I wouldn't want it any other way. Love the chats so entertaining.
I would like to thank all for the kind remarks and comments re BilL. This morning I have been catching up on all the comments since Wednesday and am very disappointed that the American administration is even thinking of approving the killing of the whales and surely after the report of what Japan is doing ie. buying votes they should be banned from voting along with the countries that they have bribed if the report is found to be true.
This morning I was cooking some rubarb but allowed it to overflow while I was watching the bird feeders so the hob had to be cleaned luckily there was no sugar in it so it wasn't sticky. The birds seem to be eating a lot more at the moment and I have green finches gold finches sparrows pidgeon crows jackdaws and a lone gull who can't get to the feeders but likes to chase the smaller birds away from them. I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and Alan what factor of sun cream does Hamish use when he takes his blanket out to sun bathe?

Hi george g : It is upsetting about the news re the whales - there will never be an end to their slaughter until all countries together can be persuaded to stop.
So easy to forget things on the stove, when there are birds to watch! You were right about the sugar, it would have been a much worse problem if there had been some in it.
Our new potatoes are not 'Main Crop' but what they call 'Earlies' and were planted says my OH, on 22nd March. He has picked some strawberries this morning, and there were so many we are giving some away.... sorry I can't put some on here!
Pic of a clematis we only planted last autumn, it's growing up the wall at the rear of the house where we used to have a climbing rose, but have now replaced that with two kinds of clematis.
Good afternoon george g it is simply awful about the whales, why do they suffer such persecution.
sorry about the rhubarb incident it is easy to be distracted when watching birds. I do quite a bit of it from my kitchen window and have managed to let things boil over and then spending time clearning up.
Loved your bit about Hamish and sun cream.

Lindybird as my Mum would have said I need to take more water with it, only joking of course. A couple of glasses of wine at the weekend and that is about all I have in the way of alcohol.
The rain will at least let you watch our family for a while.
Afternoon all,
Welcome Paula and what a start with that woodpecker photo. I think I have only had one in the garden once very briefly last winter.
Nice clematis photo Lindybird. I have a similar one that flowers later and with smaller flowers.
GeorgeG : Hamish thanks you for your concern re sun tan cream but he is so incredibly hairy it would be a bit messy to rub it on. Seriously though he is quite sensible and seeks the shade when it is too hot.
Had a lovely morning at Rutland Water and just watched Serbia beat Germany 1-0 in the World Cup. Another shock result some would say.
Just received a Fathers Day card from my daughter with a photo of an osprey on it and when you open it , it makes the noise of an osprey calling.
Weather has been dry and cloudy all morning but it has just started raining so no gardening today. Temp 14.9c
.....Just lost all my electricity, which threw me in a panic for a while, as thought the whole street must have gone off, but no, its just us. OH told me how to trip the switch back (had to ring him on my mobile as even the phone wasn't on). Must do some housework now, but just found this and couldn't resist telling you to go to this link to see a Very Small Person.....
