Weekly Chat (non-osprey) - Sunday 22nd May 2016

Such is the chaos the Ying Tong cyber attack has caused that I only just noticed there was no new Weekly Chat!  I don't know how much opportunity we'll get to post on this new thread but at least we can all curse the perpetrators en masse!

Happy New Week!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Hi to everyone. I'm very busy right now with my freelance project, and I'm also trying (desperately) to get my too-tall grass mowed. A frantic field mouse scuttled over my foot in terror this afternoon. Then an hour later, a sizeable Eastern Garter Snake slithered over my foot. I encouraged the snake to find that mouse and eat him. :-)

Brenda: Have a wonderful time with your family! Good journey to you.

    Lindy: Enjoy yourselves in Wales.

Annette: Glad you're catching up with friends.

OG: I hope you're feeling MUCH better today.

AQ: Hope you're healing! Sending you good energy.

Margo: Glad to hear that you've been feeling a bit better! Hugs to you.

    Everyone have a good week.

  • Love that snake, Diane!!  Such pretty markings. Now what have I done!!!!  Can't get this to write differently,  LOL!!

Hope you can get all your grass cut. Hey, it's gone right!

  • Diane, I don't think I could have stood there, while the snake slithered over my foot. It looks very long, although colourful.

Linda,  Have a good time in Wales. Bonnie will be able to run free on the shore.

AQ, I do hope your pain is subsiding.

OG, Sorry you are in such pain. I hope the injection works.

George, So good to hear from you. Pleased that you opted to take the train. Do take care of yourself. Although it is lovely that you help others so often.

Annette, Sounds so good that you had a leisurely day out with your friend, including the train journey. I have seen a piano, in London, left for people to play. Some very gifted pianists around.

Lynette, Pleased to hear you enjoyed your holiday. Yes, it is very difficult to see the osprey at Glaslyn.

Heather, Easy to understand why your OH gets frustrated because of his failing hearing and tree climbing abilities. He has always been so active and sociable.

Margo has been enjoying herself. I am sure she will post and tell you. She is due a transfusion on Friday.

Just going to pack my case now.

  • Brenda: Wonderful to hear that Margo is enjoying herself! Yay!  have a lovely time with the family.

  • Hello all

Thank you for all your news -

BRENDA- you will be looking forward so much to seeing your son and daughter in law. I know that you will enjoy your time together as a family xxx

GEORGE- It is always good to read your news. You are, as usual, helping your family members- what a great brother in law you are! Enjoy your time up North.

OG- Sorry about your arthritis flare up. How you do all the things that you do despite the pain etc is amazing. You have great strength of character which I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have.

LINDY- as I've said before, Bonnie sounds like my middle daughter. Just could not take my eyes off her for a moment when she was a toddler.

LYNETTE- your OH is still having dressings but everything is healing. That is good to read.

AQ- I echo ANNETTE- phone home! Thinking about your knee problems, hoping that things are improving.

MARGO- Immensely happy that you seem to have benefited greatly from latest transfusion.

DIANE- didn't like the look of the snake but assume that it isn't venomous? Hope not, anyway. Good luck with your work x

Hi to WENDY,CLARE, ROSY and all I've missed.

A dull and quite cool day, here today. We went to the garden centre for a few more plants. OH had lunch there while I got my fortnightly treat, nails manicured and painted. Just after we arrived home stepson and wife arrived, unexpectedly, for coffee and chat. They left at 5pm, so all systems go for me, then, in the kitchen. Nothing exciting, just macaroni cheese, so didn't take too long. OH is due a meat fest(!) so will oblige tomorrow.

  • BRENDA -  Have a lovely time with the family.

HEATHER - Don't think Garter Snakes are dangerous.  How nice that you get relatives popping in. We only have that occasionally, as a lot of ours are so busy you have to make an appointment! I adore macaroni cheese - preferably with additional fried onions on top!

  • Glad to hear that Margo has been feeling more like going out - I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!

  • My mac cheese has to have a crispy topping...

Grey day here and a chilly walk by the river..

Sorted out some conifers and a bit of weeding...

Heather took myself off for a much needed and major pedicure 2 weeks ago and doing same on Friday to get them summer fit. She fell about laughing at the state of my hands so booked in for the following week. Youngest up in June so she is also booked in and then on to my hairdresser for major haircut. She says my hairdresser is better than anyone she has found in Dorset..

Pleased to here Margo is doing "stuff" ..

  • My Mac and cheese has to have cheese, sometimes breadcrumbs and bits of pancetta on top!

Glad I'm not the only person here to get nails done :-)

Hi, Heather! Nope, Eastern Garter snakes aren't venomous, and his jaws wouldn't be strong/large enough to do any real damage. I actually enjoyed seeing him. So beautiful.

Oddly enough, the field mouse posed more danger than the snake. In the West and Central U.S., a lot of the mice are infected with Hantavirus. It's rare for humans to contract it, but it's often fatal if they do. People who stay in cabins in the national and state parks are most at risk from the mice. That's usually where lethal infections occur because the virus is airborne.

I don't have any mice in my house, and I rarely see them on the land. The hawks, owls, and snakes eat them!

I'm so very sorry about your OH's declining hearing, Heather.
