Pitch dark on the nest right now, but can make out EJ.
OK. EJ started off by feeding the largest chick; now she's giving the second largest some bites. Little Titch is squeaking and at one point (after a few minutes here) managed to wriggle in between the other two and get at least one bite, but not as much as the other two. EJ ate quite a lot of this fish herself. Now she's settled down on the chicks again.
Chick number 3 seemed to change his/ her mind as far as tactics during that last feed. Started by looking to sneak round the front right chick's blind side, then changed to a tactic of barging his/ her way to the front. I reckon sticking to the original plan might've been more successful.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Right - I noticed that. It's hard not to yell directions from the sidelines here. Also to tell EJ "Hey, don't forget that little squirt at the back!"
Heron: Did you hear those other birds? Geese?
Annette: I often find myself yelling directions from the sidelines, usually at chick #3: "Move left!", "Move right!" "Right that's it, go on!" Definately heard the geese.
It was hard last year at times watching Garten (last year's Titch) fighting for a bite to eat and we were all worried, but she must have got some assertiveness training somewhere because by the end of the season, no one was messing with her!
Here comes the sun - my, what a beautiful morning at LG. EJ checking in with the chicks and looking about.
I think this year's youngest is developing the same sort of attitude as Garten. Whenever I see Chick #3 making his/her way to the front, I have to stop myself from loudly cheering. Although EJ does a great job of making sure all 3 chicks get something to eat.
EJ is sporting a feather on her beak - rather fetching I think.... She also just missed being zapped by some flying poop as she peered down to see the chicks!
Heron: Garten was quite a bit along before she learned to stand up for herself; let's hope Titch doesn't wait that long - we were all having anxiety attacks.
