Weekly Chat, Sunday May 30 2010

Hi all: Pesky cam is down again.   Don't forget to check the last page of previous week's posts for a hallo from Caerann and somewhat worrisome news from Phoebe's nest.

Hot, hot here today. Now the wind is back up - chimes are chiming madly and motion sensor lights are coming on and off as the hanging plants sway in the wind.  Nice tree man is coming next week; hope our Chinese Elm doesn't sustain any more damage in the meantime.

OG: Hoping to organize a similar video for my daughter's 50th (or rather, have my clever friend help me do one).

Alicat: Oh man; not good news about the hummers. Tried to watch the video, but more than 12,000 viewers  were also on the site and the video kept freezing.

Diane: Fascinating about Zaca Station Road! Thanks - must've been a tiny railroad since the distance to Los Alamos is just about 9 miles.....  I knew there were wineries up there though haven't visited them yet.

Really tired,  so not staying around late tonight. Planning a lazy day at home tomorrow and Monday. Take care all.

  • Updated UK osprey nesting calendar with todays news:

  • Thanks to Diane for story of the Peregrine falcon fledgling - how bizzare that she didn't see the bird ? or worse - she did, but didn't care?  At least the others are OK.

Loved the Moorhen chicks pic, Alan, its like a watercolour painting.

Annette:    I'm sure St. Anthony must be fed up with me then, as I'm always losing things in spite of being as careful as I can.  Husband just barges through life without a care, and only manages to lose the odd golf umbrella when he walks off without them. There must be several things in this house which have disappeared without trace, but I just know they are here somewhere......

Glad to hear that the oil leak may at last be stopped, at least in part, by the latest attempt.

Had brief visit this morning from Younger Son and (pregnant) Wife, as they have passed by on their way to a short holiday in the Lake District.   We sat in the garden in the sunshine, with tea and biscuits, very nice. They are going to see us again on Monday, on their way back again.

Got very warm here this afternoon, and then turned thundery and dark - just a few large drops of rain fell.

Off now to take the hoover to pieces......

  • ps  HeatherB:   How much do you charge for loan of your OH ??? ....... I could be taking you up on your offer.

Lindybird - He is priceless!! You wouldn't believe the things he has found for me, despite wearing specs since age 17!! (He is 80 this year). BTW he only uses specs for long distance, he takes them off to read, etc. I wish that my eyesight was as good.

  • Good grief Diane - maybe that woman thought the bird would fly away when she got up some speed? Let us know if there's any addtional news.   Heather: My OH has the same kind of eyesight, but he loses things - typically papers, bills, printouts, letters, coupons, etc because doesn't believe in staples or those little springy clamp thingies, so consequently the electric bill gets hung up on paper clips that are holding together his travel itinerary, etc...

All sounds a bit familiar Annette -we have a large filing cabinet but I have to say, there are several files which seem to contain similar contents. Bottom line - need a secretary! (Not me, please, not me!)

  • Just looking in to say we're home - got here about half hour ago.  Very tired - stayed all day at Gardening Scotland - 10 am to 7pm!  Latest pics of the three chicks look huge in just 36 hours!  Encouraging news about Hope too, I see.  Will come back properly tomorrow - been running on adrenalin just by being somewhere different, now run out!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • No news on the missing Indianapolis peregrine falcon juvenile. :-(

    OG: Welcome back!

Annette: Lots of drama on the Trucker Steve blog/comments the last couple of days -- and on the unofficial Facebook site: http://ja-jp.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&viewas=0&gid=50547862703 . Apparently, a lot of conflict has been brewing. I watch that webcam sometimes because I enjoy the scenery from around the country, especially since I can't get out much right now, but I was never involved with his blog.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

  • Diane I do hope they find the missing Indy peregrine - how strange to drive off like that.

The Chichester chicks will be fledging in the nest few days - unfortunately I will be away but watch the blog, especially the Gallery: http://www.chichesterperegrines.co.uk/blog.htm
