Weekly Chat, Sunday May 30 2010

Hi all: Pesky cam is down again.   Don't forget to check the last page of previous week's posts for a hallo from Caerann and somewhat worrisome news from Phoebe's nest.

Hot, hot here today. Now the wind is back up - chimes are chiming madly and motion sensor lights are coming on and off as the hanging plants sway in the wind.  Nice tree man is coming next week; hope our Chinese Elm doesn't sustain any more damage in the meantime.

OG: Hoping to organize a similar video for my daughter's 50th (or rather, have my clever friend help me do one).

Alicat: Oh man; not good news about the hummers. Tried to watch the video, but more than 12,000 viewers  were also on the site and the video kept freezing.

Diane: Fascinating about Zaca Station Road! Thanks - must've been a tiny railroad since the distance to Los Alamos is just about 9 miles.....  I knew there were wineries up there though haven't visited them yet.

Really tired,  so not staying around late tonight. Planning a lazy day at home tomorrow and Monday. Take care all.

  • Hallo all: Lovely afternoon here - didn't do a darn thing after I picked the oranges (well, did read up on orange tree problems and think ours might have a magnesium deficiency).   Then sat in deck chair with book and magazines and that was it!  Now have to brush hair and put on a bra (among other things) for visit to friends!

OG: Glad you saw doc and have some meds; also that hotel manager called. You're right that full refund now means you don't have to think about it for the next year.

Welcome back dibnlibTerry: Three weeks without boss might seem like a little vacation too? Or maybe not with all the work and responsibility....

    Back later.

  • Hi, all. Glad to see the LG chicks growing so fast and looking so plump.

Annette: Are you going to give your orange tree a magnesium capsule? I take a calcium/magnesium supplement every day. :-)

OG: I hope the antibiotics are immediately effective for you. Feel better soon!!! Seems to be a lot of illness about -- both here and in the UK. Very odd for summer. Makes me wonder why. Glad you're getting a full refund for the room; they owed it to you.

Lindybird: Very lovely poem and very beautiful poppies! Thanks.

I'm going to play one game of Scrabble and then make myself go to bed. I need to work hard on the house this week. Way too hot and stormy to do anything outdoors, anyway. Everyone have a good Tuesday!

  • Hey Diane: Well I'm going to feed the orange tree a magnesium-rich food next time I deep water it; it's too close to the last meal and ground is still moist 6" down. Had nice little visit to friends - had wine and snacks then came home to light supper.  Good luck with the house.

  • Cute little interlude with Hoku the Hummingbird (see video "Hoku Upside Down") on Phoebe's site. Hoku is sitting preening at the edge of the nest and suddenly disappears over the side - we can see a cute little feathered derriere as he/she? struggles to get right side up. After another minute, here comes Phoebe, who looks at Hoku as if to say, "Can't I leave you along for five minutes without you getting into trouble!?"

Off to bed now. Take care all.

  • Morning all,

Loved the poem Lindybird and the poppies pic.

Everyone else thanks for the chat etc.

Here is a pic of one of the locomotives on the Welsh Highland Railway. The service now stops at Pont Croesor where the osprey visitor centre is so that people can have half an hour or so watching the ospreys,

  • A quiet night – both here (I slept better) and there (nobody had much to say).  Gentle rain here this morning – what I call “growing rain” for the garden.  Runner beans looked pale yesterday evening – must feed them something with plenty of iron.  Diane – hope your work on the house progresses smoothly.  Annette – pleased you had a good evening with friends – how wonderful to be able to take home grown oranges as a gift!  Now going to look in on Phoebe video and see Hoku’s incident – he/she is about due to fledge today anyway.  Lily and Hope news isn’t very good – looks like some territorial conflict between Lily and her mother June is drawing Lily away from Hope again.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Missed your post, Alan.  Good picture.  Would like to revisit N Wales some time, but don't like travelling South to get there.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning all - damp and cold here - a day for indoor activities I think.

Alan - nice pic of the locomotive ... have passed the website on to my OH ... he has a worldwide collection of railway sites!

OG - glad you are a bit better today

Annette - how lovely to be able to pick oranges off your own tree as a gift

Thanks to all for chat etc

    Take care

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Morning, All.  Damp and dreary here today, but we need the rain as it didn't rain last night as promised in the forecast. Guess we are getting it now.

Alan:   Great pic of the train, and thanks so much for the link to the railway as we will def. be going there sometime if you can go to see osps !

Dry and warm here yesterday, but no sun - good anyway for the Street Fair we went to, it was the best they have had in the last few years, lots of stalls and music, folk dressed up as Cranford era characters etc. We were very good and OH bought just one book, a Wilbur Smith compilation of 3 books. Also one very small cake each, a fairy cake with a cherry on top!  Some local cheese, which was delicious later for our late lunch. Met one or two people who we know, so a bit of gossip. Bored all with our 'Grandparents soon' news. The stalls had all kinds of goods, including one which amused many, with knitted items including Cupcakes in lots of colours....   Told myself not to buy, as where would I put one (or two). Much fun. Tried to garden in afternoon but was overcome with tiredness and just sat reading for a while, feeling lazy.

    Happy June to All.

  • Good afternoon all and thanks for news and pics.  Trying to catch up as I have been out all morning in the wet, pretty miserable day here but I think the rain is stopping now.  Been to hairdressers and it always rains or blows a gale when I go.

original goldfinch glad to see you are feeling and little better.

DjoanS I did have a quick look at Lily and Hope news and not so good today, hopefully Lily will not move to far away from Hope this time.
