Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • They have been eating breakfast since 8:45 when I logged on :-)

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Both of them are full :-)

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Looked like a very large fish. Lady still has about half left.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Just logged on again to find that they have had breakfast and Lady is just contemplating after tidying up the nest.  The young ones are sleeping off breakfast. Looks decent weather there, wind has gone for the time being.

  • I dont know if you have all seen this poem posted by Shirley on the SWT forum:

    "

    The Lady of the Loch

Our “Lady of the Loch” returns once again to roost,
year on year she makes her way back home to raise her brood.
Many times she’s travelled these innate and distant tracks,
migration route of peril set, though none could hold her back.
Our Lady, strong, determined, returned to cheers and praise,
knows not the joy she brings us while her family to raise.

Patiently she waits for him, her mate of many falls,
so skillfully she tends their nest whilst listening for his calls.
Though interlopers many, she drives off every one,
to wait in vain for he she knows but mate does not return.
A new mate now must take his place and share her structured nest,
a younger boy to learn the ways, her choice must be the best.

Three eggs she lays and two do hatch, such wondrous fine young chicks,
while new mate striving hard supplies his family with fish.
Then suddenly a problem dawns, our Lady lies so still,
unable to protect her young, we watch as she falls ill.
The Laird, aware of something wrong, amazes all who stare,
rising to his duty, tends each one with loving care.

Is this the end of Lady’s life, this journey home her last?
we wait in fear, our prayers we send, ’till danger time is passed.
This grand old girl, so strong of will, must see her chicks to flight,
her age surpassed all others known, her life a sheer delight.
We know there’ll be no other that can take our Lady’s place,
she’s touched the hearts of many with her strength, her life, her grace."

  • Good morning Alan - I always go to LOtL cam first to see Lady.  Read the poem and it is just beautiful.  Gives you a lump in the throat.

  • Good morning Sancra and thanks for all the pics.  I always look forward to the ones you manage to get early in the day.   It is still so good to see her sitting there on her favourite perch and good to know they have had a large fish delivered by the Laird.

  • Welcome Blackbird and what a lot of tears were probably shed last weekend when Marje/Lady was so ill.  It is unbelievable that she has pulled through and improves a little each day.  there is a long way yet for her to return to good health but just so pleased that she is still with us as she is an amazing osprey.

  • What a wonderful poem from Shirley, Alan, thanks for putting it on a post, will copy and paste it.

It looks as though Lady is feeding one of the chicks, maybe from leftovers or there could have been a delivery, not sure.

  • Hi everyone.

Alan:  Thanks for posting that fantastic poem from Shirley.  I must admit that when I first read in on the LotL blog, I had a lump in my throat.  In a manly way of course. :-)

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.
