Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • The Laird has just come in with another fish at 9:20pm and she snatched it off him.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

It is absolutely wonderful seeing her feeding the chick 9:13pm.  :-)

Sandra it is wonderful,, the chicks have been very well fed today.  The Laird called in quickly and Lady is having a meal herself.

Lady's recovery over the last 36 hours has been one of the most remarkable and uplifting events I've ever witnessed, utterly amazing. She seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds now, and although not 100%, she has certainly found her voice again!

Sandy is the most wonerful thing to see.  I smiled this afternoon when I heard her calling (nagging) for the Laird to deliver which he duly did.  She has a way to go yet but after seeing the way she was over the weekend we could not have dreamed it would turn out like it has.

Think its the right decision not to ring them, if there is even the slightest chance of upsetting Lady in her fragile state.  It will be wonderful to see the chicks fledge, then she has done her job well again this year, and a fitting last tribute to an amazing bird.  Just a pity that we won't know them when they return in a few years from now.

Evening Linda not been on a lot this evening as have been busy.  They have made to right decision in not ringing them this year.  Lady is still fragile and wouldn't want her to be under any added stress.  Looked in a littlw while ago and she was feeding.  She seems to have left the nest at the moment and they are panning round with the camera.  Hope she gets back safely.

  • Just catching up with all the posts and pics, thanks.  Well, Lady/Marge made the Daily Telegraph today. There was a very short article about this grand old bird and how she was dying, with a closeup picture of her head which showed her in a poor condition.  Little do the Telegraph know that this "old bird~" has made an astonishing recovery to see hopefully her chicks fledge.

I notice Lady and EJ are both feeding their youngsters.

  • I think the right decision's been taken not to tag the chicks this year.  They've had more than enough drama on that nest in the past few days.  It's so wonderful to see the Lady of the Loch eating and feeding the chicks.  What an Osprey!  Super Marge!

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

Every time she goes for a flyaround, I wonder whether she really will return!

Those chicks have been well-fed today!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • It is a joy to see the  recovery of the Lady!!

Let's not forget The  male was magnificent through all of this too . He " immediately" took over when he saw her face down on the nest and  did the fishing , feeding and  guarded the nest.

Without his  diligence the chicks would have suffered or  perished without food for 4 days.

The Laird and Odin are both Super Birds !!

This amazing story will go into the  Osprey history books

  • I see there was some jokey comments on the SWT blog about making a film about the events at LotL this year. Does anyone know if they record all the images throughout the season from the camera? If they do then surely they could put together a DVD of all this year's events - done properly it would be a blockbuster! I know I'd buy a copy.
