Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.
Sandra, those chick pictures are superb. Thank you so very much.
Thanks margobird for the info - I didn't see the drop either.
Some more pictures of the events of the last hour or so -
No.1 eating the fish:
No.2 (right) screeches and tries to steal it, without success:
No.1 stands guard:
No.2 finally gets some of that fish:
No. 2 is one the back edge of the nest still eating. No.1 flew off about 10 mins ago.
Ah now it has just left. I notice it has been screaming a lot this afternoon, even when it did have some food. Do you think it is missing mum?

another pic of those events, taken at 16:20 - Eldest protecting fish, with Youngest in the background still screaming for it:
Hi everyone. Thanks for all the updates and pics. Sandra your pics are absolutely wonderful. Looks like the Lady of the Loch has left for warmer climes. Would love to see her return to LotL next year but if this is to be her last season, I feel honoured to have watched such a wonderful Osprey. The way she overcame her illness was inspirational. Have a safe and calm journey Marge and thanks for being a Super Osprey.Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Those are stunning shots of the youngsters on the nest with a fish, Robert the Bruce. Thanks for posting them.
Many Thanks to SueC for posting the link to the nice bit of film footage of Lady doing her flyabout.
I should also like to add my heartfelt thanks to Sandra for her loyal and constant coverage of the nest - I've not always had time to keep up with the doings here as well as at LG, but have always been interested in what goes on and was so very moved by Lady's determined fight back to health. All so well documented by Sandra and her pictures - thank you so much.
If this is to be Lady's last migration I hope she manages to get to warmer climes for the winter and can relax and reflect on her enormous legacy to the Osprey world. As Sandra says, a Truly Wonderful Osprey.
HI, back from doing a cricket tea for a youth side.
See there has been a delivery or chick 1 brought it in himself and #2 tried to get it.
Lindybird - have you got the link from Sue C for the flyabout of Lady, would love to see it.
Thanks for all the updates and pics .

Lady arrived back at LotL at 2 pm on 23rd March this year. If you go back to the Osprey Sightings thread (remember that?) the most likely sighting that could have been Lady on her migration was from the morning of 22nd March at Crookfoot Reservoir in Cleveland - I made a note of it at the time as possibly being Lady at her last stop before Dunkeld.
Interesting then that a new sighting was reported yesterday at 12:10 pm at Crookfoot Reservoir!! If Lady left at 10:18 as reported then it would be entirely feasible that she made Cleveland by Noon. Presumably the same bird was later reported at 6:15 pm, 8:00 pm and also this afternoon at 2:45 pm.
Hugely speculative and even fanciful that Lady may be at Crookfoot Reservoir, but not impossible!
It would be lovely to think you are right Sandy. Great detective work.
Sandy
The same thought occurred to me until I checked the distance from LOTL to Crookfoot - 300 odd km in 2 hours would be a bit excessive I think!
