Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • Hi everyone.

Had a great time at LotL on Saturday.  The staff are all very enthusiasic, friendly, and knowlegable.  They're surprised that the dud egg hasn't been kicked off the nest and amazed at Lady Marge's recovery.  It was wonderful to see her looking so well.  There's a theory that she might hold back her winter migration by a couple of weeks so that she's bulked enough for the long journey.

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Recorded just before 4.30pm today - watch youngster demolish that fish !! Take it youngster No 2 was full - didn't seem bothered  !!!

Got to make the most of this - won't be long before they migrate.

    regards

  • Evening Heron 77 so glad you got to LOtL and managed to see Lady. It would be nice to think she may stay a little longer before or if she decides to go.

  • Hi Heron.

Glad you had chance to see Lady and our wonderful family before they migrate and that you had a great time. I hope you took some good pics to show us. :-)

    Thanks Lofty for video.

    Very much appreciated!!

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • One chick on the nest at 9pm and calling.

  • Evening everyone.  Just looking in before bedtime.  Thanks for clip Lofty and pix/updates from regulars.  What a wonderful group of LOTL fans. I too hope Lady confounds the experts by returning again next year but given her advanced years she has already confounded them by returning this year, producing two healthy chicks and recovering so remarkably from her illness, of course the support of Laird .  What a gal! What a couple!  Glad to see you enjoyed yourself on Saturday Heron77.  I was there in the afternoon and posted the information I gleaned from the staff on Saturday evening, a few pages back on the blog.  Look forward to reading about your visit there and to LG if you managed to go there too.  No ospreys on the nest and visibility has virtually gone so I'm turning in. Catch up tomorrow.

  • EVening all: Just a quick to say won't be on much tonight as daughter is visiting until tomorrow.

  • Well, just looked in and it's the same scene as last night - rear view of a headless chick!!  Hmm. Can't see if anyone's on Lady's perch.

  • Wow. Fish delivery!! Chick that has been waiting on the nest grabs it and mantles. Not sure who delivered it but they didn't stick around. Suspect it was Laird because think Lady would've stayed to feed chicks, but maybe not.  Other chick has arrived (don't know where it was) but no way is sibling going to share this one.  Can't get MWSnap to work tonight or would post a photo. Sigh.  OK. guys, have to go and am turning it over to the day shift.

  • Well, haven't gone yet and this looks like a good-sized fish so there's a good chance there'll be leftovers for the second chick, who is calling as if to say "Where's mine?!"
