Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • Hi all

Not been able to log on till tate today, and all I see is an empty nest.

Obviously the youngsters are enjoying exploring their new world and the Lady and Laird are having a break - it's been great watching but just feel a bit sad seeing that empty nest !!

    regards

Hi just wanted to say what a great log this is.  I have been watching the LOTL nest more than LG but as the blog goes off at LOTL at 5pm it has been great to catch up on what has been happening.  Thanks in particular to people such as Sandra and Lynette who do a great job of managing to catch the importnat news, photos and videos of the day.  Thank you

  • Evening everyone.  Just checking in to find out whats been happening today.  Two youngsters are on the nest.  No sign of Laird at present.  Lady is not on her perch but cam 2 seems to show an osprey out of range of cam 1 and closer to the camera tree which is probably her.  Thanks for posts, pix and updates today and hello to Lmac.

  • Oh dear.  Now I look back at the nest and it is empty with no sign of Lady and Laird.  Suppose its invevitable that we will only have fleeting glances of them now that they have found what their wings can do.  Weather forecast is not so good for tomorrow.  Rain on its way.  Hope Sandra is back posting and taking pix in the near future and I'm sure Lynette and Margobird will pop in for a chat soon. Emma

  • Sheryl - thank you very much for that wonderful pic of Lady which you posted yesterday.  Its really gorgeous with the bright sunshine and blue sky behind her.  Brilliant.  Thank you for allowing us to see it.

Sorry, I forgot all about popping in as I was watching LG for most of today.  What's annoying about the SWT cams is that Cam 1 only goes for so long and then cuts out. I was trying to video but when I turned round it had gone to the top of the page again. It seems to cut out after about 5 mins if not less. Does anyone else get this??

Will try harder tomorrow. It is great that one has fledged and I think they were saying that the second one could go any day . Don't know whether it went yesterday or not.

  • Evening all: An osprey is calling at LOTL, but nest Cam is so dim and Cam2 is so blurry can't make out what or who, except there is a bird on Lady's favorite perch.   Very windy this morning - nest is swaying - or is it the trees in the background?

Lynette: Yes, I get the auto cut-off with the LOTL cam - I think I heard it was a way of saving bandwidth for them....   Is a bit of a bother in that if I'm typing or doing something on another page, the LOTL cam cut-off interrupts what I'm doing and I often don't realize it until I look at the screen.

  • Well, the bird on the perch has apparently come down to the nest, but don't know who it is...

  • It's a bit frustrating to watch both cams since they're not synchronized - what I mean is that there's a few second delay between what you see on one Cam and when you see it on the other, so when a lot is going on in the nest, it's sometimes hard to know exactly what!  :-)  Still just one bird on the nest, calling. I think it's a chick but aren't sure.

  • Wow. Definitely a chick - flapped up a few feet, then down, then up, then headed out over the trees.
