Another day closer to the first egg hatching and I'm pretty sure Odin is still sitting after EJ flew off for a break. I could be wrong of course. Eagle eyes amongst you early morning viewers may be able to put me right.

Morning all. Just getting a quick fix before the webcam goes down to allow the spark to connect up the 'mains'. I hope that will help the hum, which is verry loud this morning - can't even hear Radio Chaffinch! There has been a sound now and then which is like regular, fairly quiet hammering (or large dripping raindrops thought the day looks fair). Aanyone know what it is? Sister and B-i-L intend visiting the centre today - I've ordered cake or something equally tasty, which I'll pay for when they return from holiday. Apologies for the mangled grammar!
Barbara Jean: Pecking and breaking out must take tremendous effort, so once the hole is big enough, I assume that the chick will start breathing, quite early in the process of hatching, to get the necessary oxygen. Any thoughts?
Camera still working at present., Odin? on the eggs, back view.
EDIT: EJ just arrived with piece of bark, then changeover. Oh, now he's back with more nest material.

A lot of coming and going, back, then he's off again.
EJ just returned. She was gone more than 2 hours and Odin got up immediately when she arrived and flew off
He returned a minute or so later with some bark and stood on the nest for a few minutes. He is off again, EJ is laying in the eggs and trying to find a place for his gift of bark :)
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
just logged on before it goes off - to find Odin on the nest, they were chirping to each other, EJ wasn't going to get up again and Odin flew off. Hopefully he's gone to get breakfast.
Good Morning All, just checking the camera before it vanishes. Thanks for all the overnight / early morning commentary.
EJ still on the nest.

Oh, that will surely be a sight to be seen :)))))
I'm off now, have a nice day all osprey lovers!
Came on half expecting it all to be off already: EJ is sitting calmly on the nest, unaware of the electrical excitement amongst us humans. Hope all goes well with the changeover.
Unknown said: I searched on the net to find out how long it takes a chick to break out of it's shell. All I could find was the time it takes chickens. Up to 24 hours. So Odin & EJ probably feel chick #1 pecking at it's shell
