Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • LINDYBIRD  wam and occassionally hot here, but overcast and a bit sticky.  Enjoyed vintage cars which were on display in town today ( there was the most beautiful Sunbeam Talbot tourer built in 1938 ) and in most cases the owners were there if you wanted to ask questions. Among others there was a Vauxhall Cavalier and I was exclaiming about the length of the bonnet and could hardly believe it when OH reminded me that I used to drive one of those in 1981/2. this aft we took Dillon for a walk by the canal which is always great in warm weather as he likes a swim. Caledonian Cruisers were having a good day as a few of their boats passed us. Like you we will be watching "Over the Rainbow"and tonight we will vote. Danielle is our favourite and has been mine for most of the shows.

  • That's 3 votes she has then, as my sis.in-law is voting for her, too.  There has been a very high standard of entry for this competition, its nice to know that most of them will find some kind of work afterward even if they don't win the coveted part of Dorothy at the end.

This week also watched all 3 of the 'Springwatch Specials' which were in advance of the actual series starting on 31st May.  Always enjoy Simon King.  We are on the fence rather about the Global Warming debate I'm afraid, but try to keep open minds.  There have always been fluctuations in the climate since the earth began, so this may just be another one. Wait and see, I say!

  • LINDYBIRD   also enjoyed Springwatch with urban springwatch with Simon King unmissable. He almost made me want to live in a city and then followed by the Hebridean Escape. Television bliss

  • Have seen a few of the Hebrides progs., they have been great and now I regret missing the first one or two. 'My' girl has just won the Talent show, and is taking the part of Dorothy in Wizard of Oz on the West End Stage production by Andrew Lloyd Webber - what an opportunity for an 18 year old!  I did enjoy the singing of all the contestants, as I just love musicals.  Going to open a bottle of wine now and we will drink to the new little chick.  Night All.

  • Night Lindybird.  I was watching Dorothy too.  The winner had to have the innocence of a young talent in my opinion so cheers to you.  Enjoy your wine.  Today has been a winner on many fronts.  Annette - I like the sound of your birthday present options.  When is your OH flying to ....Cambridge was it?  I remember you were undecided about what to do while he is away.  Did you decide or will you just take things as they come?  I am approaching the end of an unexpected work project which started on 11th Jan.  It will mean that I have afternoons from 2pm at home during the summer unless something else comes along but I don't foresee that at the moment and might not accept it anyway.  I need a break.  Holiday booked in August with daughters, boyfriend and friend so six of us heading to the sun in Turkey in August.  Will most likely miss the migrations but it will probably be the last time we go on holiday as a family.  Next year older daughter will go on to university and start her own life. Younger daughter will have a friend to keep her company. Oh, I am rabbiting on.  Apologies.

  • Opted out of drying the dishes as my back is ssooo sore after some ironing (and that after some gardening).  About halfway through holiday ironing – so lucky to get all the shirts dried outside in the wonderful weather, but that means it is all ready at the same time!  Also, it is actually so warm now that I find the actual heat exhausting – sorry, very difficult to please!  I know I can’t get through ten days reading and replying in one evening, so will start at the beginning and see where it takes me!

I waved goodbye Tuesday 11th, so thanks for the good wishes which were posted later that evening.  On our first day, we happened upon this view of daffodils and hills – I rather like quirky combinations like this:

Continuing reading, just enjoyed  the “dubious” book title discussion!  Annette – the Trucker always does his best bits when I am not here!  Did he get a new tractor unit yet?? – (later ... I now know the answer, thanks Diane!).  Lindybird – we have always made journeys to see family – we were a distance from our parents, then our children moved away from us – except a number of times when our Son bounced back after moving out!  Just read you comment about Dibnlib and me and cake – all four of us were very good and only ate one course for lunch that day – but when all the others had coffee, I had hot chocolate.  It was great to meet her and the two OHs got on well too.  Loved your Cameron/Clegg "wedding poem"!  Diane –  Purple Herons have been sighted in Kent – but it’s where there might/will be an airport built, so speculation about their possible future.  AQ and Diane  - on trips, I always slow everyone down with my arthritis, but OH is very good, because he knows I would not manage on my own.

Well, I’ve covered two days so far, and apologise to people on whose posts I have not commented.   That sounds awfully clumsy, but to quote someone – may have been Churchill –“ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put”!

Oh dear, yet another week will begin tomorrow!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
