Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • DIANE sounds par for the course, to heck with reading and libraries, but fine to support mega rich football teams(surely they should be paying for their own stadium!!!!!

  • Dibnlib  here it is

    Temporary Shut Down

just a quickie, to give you the heads-up, that tomorrow we hope to join the real world and be linked to mains power.  Yes, the time has come, it has been a long haul, but we are almost there. The fluorescent-jacketed boys from Scottish and Southern Energy have today put the finishing touches to the installation of mains power to the Osprey Centre, having changed the pole-mounted transformer 2.5km away, fitted the fuses and meter to the Centre building and carried out tests. All the remains now is for our local sparky from MacPherson's Electrical Ltd to come and link the building's electrics to the SSE junction box , disconnect the generator and we're wired. Hoorah!

This last stage will be taking place tomorrow, Thursday 20th May. In order to do it, the exisiting generator power supply needs to be disconnected - so you know what that means don't you?  Yes, webcam pictures will be down for a while, likely to be from 9am to lunchtime-ish. Sorry to interrupt your viewing, but needs must I'm afraid and with hatching likely sometime from Friday, I am keen to get this done tomorrow, ahead of all the excitement.  Initially my sparky said, he couldn't get to us until Friday afternoon, but when I happened to mention the size of the viewing audience anticipating possible hatching on Friday, he agreed to come along tomorrow.

Bear with us please, I assure you we will get back on air as soon as we can.  Thanks.

  • Hello, All:   Oh its good to be back!    My computer got itself in a knot of some kind, and I've not been able to access the internet for about a day & a half - it was like a bereavement.  My Eldest has just been round for a meal and to look at my problem, bless him, and so now here I am at last.  Just going to read back & see what I've missed.  Looks like its M>E>Day tomorrow - Mains Electricity Day, that is! how exciting.

  • Lindybird so good to see you.  Have been quite worried about you.  What a time for your domputer to tie itself in a knot, but glad your Eldest has sorted things out for you.  Know what you mean about it being like a bereavement.  I had a problem a couple of years ago and had to send it to the doctor, it was only a day but I felt completely lost without it.

    Margobird

  • Hi Margobird.   Thanks for worrying!   That's very nice of you.  I expect that now I'm so addicted to logging in to see how our birds are doing its noticeable when I'm not here.  Just had a quick look at the Daily Page & can see there's a lot to catch up on, even just for today!  There are a few weeds less in our garden as I took it out on them when I couldnt get my daily fix on here.

EDIT:   ps   If I'd missed the hatching I think I would have thrown something at someone!

  • Lindybird - glad to see you back ... as Margobird says, we were rather concerned about you! At least your computer went 'on the blink' before the chicks hatch ... it could have been worse!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

    Index Thread

  • Hi Linda, missed your posts today. I remember you saying you wanted a laptop, so did you sabotage your present one, just to show you could be starting to have problems.

  • Thanks, DjoanS - wipes brow with back of hand and says "phew, that was a near thing!"

EDIT:  No chance of a laptop yet, but this one will have to do with a bit of a cleanup says my Son the Expert.

  • Home once again - no time to do full read and reply tonight, but looks like plenty of news to catch up on! Had good visits with Dau#2 and then Son.  Great to meet up with Dibnlib and OH last Thursday - hope you enjoyed the ballet and have got over that nasty cold (we didn't catch it!).  Saw Capercaillie at LG - but unlucky with Dolphins at Chanonry.  Went to talk on Red Kites Monday night at Boat of Garten by Claire Buchanan of RSPB - had seen them while in Black Isle area.  Hope Margobird got back safe and sound - volcano now seems very dramatic - has it really blown its top now? - can't seem to find out any news about it.  Missed you all - will catch up eventually - meanwhile a squirrel from LG:

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Evening all: Brilliant news about the main power hookup. Tomorrow morning; let's just hope nobody breaks out of their shell early.

OG: Welcome back!  Lovely photo.  Lindybird: Thought you might've fallen down a hole, but no - good your son got your computer organized.

Still lots of daylight here so off to accomplish - something....
