Morning/evening all: Lovely day here. Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom. Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting. Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week. Off to start dinner; back later!
Just been reading that British airspace could be hit by volanic ash from tomorrw (Sunday) to Tuesday. This will mean the BA strike will prove rather futile.
Annette, I would love to hear about the plants you choose.
Annette; ERNIE is the computer who doles out prizes in the Government backed prize fund lottery, which gives out numbers for each pound deposited in the Fund - you never get any interest from your investment (& I have had some of the Bonds for over 50 years !!!) but you get your numbers entered into the draw each month for various sizes of prizes, some as high as a Million Pounds. We won 50 pounds some years ago but it is poor return for the number of years we've had money tied up in them. Well done, dibnlib! enjoy your surprise spoils!
Not surprised to hear that the volcano is at it again - they said it would do this for some time to come.
BrendaH: How nice to go to the Chelsea Flower Show - hope the weather is kind to you.
BrendaH You asked the other day about viewing the Brighton Peregrines. No I've never done it and I don't believe there's any official viewpoint, but there are some clues on the 2009 page on the site:

Sussex Heights is behind the Hilton Metropole hotel, as you look from the seafront. The nestbox is said to be on the north side, the photo seems to be taken from the top end of Regency Square. Russell Sq might also give a view of fledging, though as the nest is 300 feet up you might get a crick in the neck!
I went down to Chichester yesterday, and sat in the cafe gardens watching the (adult) peregrines with many other people. The chicks are growing fast and hopping in and out of the nestbox now:
Enjoy Chelsea!
Thanks Sue, I thought there may be a better chance of seeing the chicks at Brighton. I will be going to Chichester again, so look forward to the views of the chicks. I was suffering from a crick in my neck after looking for so long with the binoculars at Chichester birds.
Hi folks. Couldn't get on to any RSPB sites this morning and have been out all day since. Went to the Open Day at the animal sanctuary where we got Tweed and Indy (bought books!). Quick lunch then collecting for sanctuary funds in the town centre this afternoon. People were, for the most part, amazingly generous - I got through 3 collecting tins! and the weathers was dry which was a bonus. Cut the grass after I came back but haven't done any other gardening.
dibnlib and Lindybird. Have never had a prize from ERNIE despite the fact that I've had my 'tickets' for about 50 years. I thought he had died of old age!
BRENDA H Lucky you with tickets to the Chelsea flower show. something I definitely want to do.
See you have had an answer ANNETTE, it actually stands for Electronic Random Number Indicating Equipment. We have had a no of wins over the years, the most being £500. A Great Aunt of mine won £5000 in 1974 when it would probably have bought a nice house. I keep dreaming!!!!!
Evening Annette and anyone else who might look in at this late (UK) hour. You will be delighted when the painting is finished and proud of your efforts I am sure. You certainly keep yourself very busy. Congrats on your win Dibnlib. I was once lucky with ERNIE some years ago to the tune of £10. Still have the bonds invested but wouldn't buy more. Would rather buy a lottery ticket. BrendaH - you'll enjoy the Chelsea Flower Show enormously. I went many (17 or 18) years ago and loved the show gardens which were quite small at the time. I think everything there has become bigger and more lavish and would honestly like to go again but it concides with extreme exam pressure for daughters so will wait a few (only 2 or 3) years.
