Morning/evening all: Lovely day here. Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom. Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting. Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week. Off to start dinner; back later!
Morning all ... had an early appointment with the nurse for blood pressure check ... happens every 2 or 3 weeks as the doctor is still tinkering with my medication :-(
patriciat - best wishes to you and Tweed in the big competition!
Alan - hope you and Hamish have a lovely holiday in Wales
Heron77 - I hope you feel a bit better today and that you win the fight with the bugs!
Thanks to everyone for pics, links, chat etc
Off to check the daily update now
Take care
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Love this photo of King Penguins. Don't they look as if they are wearing really snug fleeces
Some lovely photographs of big cats, bears etc in todays Daily Mail

Lovely penguin pic, dibnlib: they look as if they're discussing the coming World Cup or something!
Saw those pics, DjoanS. but also disturbed to read the article on page 28 by Robin Page, who says that the reintroduction of Sea Eagles is crazy, as they eat "cats & poodles" !!!!
Lindybird - I read the article about sea-eagles too ... rather sensational talk of cats and poodles I thought! He was very disparaging of RSPB too.
Annette: Thanks for Shakespeare link. Bet you all have more Shakespeare plays than we do here (!) Hope your Chinese tree looks good, what a lovely idea to plant more at the roadside. We have had a couple of initiatives here for trees where they were given away free, but usually we have to plant them ourselves.
Oh darn. Just went back to the Daily Mail link and lost my posts here. Anyway. Morning all - again.
Has anyone visited the new RSPB Facebook page that the LG folks started recently (not the one that's been around that was started by bloggers some time ago). Just curious. I can only cope with these pages and regular e-mails.
Tiger: Thanks for update on Cirrus's vacation. I must not have been paying attention - again.
Heron: Rest up and drink lots of fluids. I had a bug a couple of months ago and had the hardest time shaking it. Felt okay for a day or two, then blechy again, then okay again, etc, etc.. Went on for weeks. Was so frustrated since I just don't have time to be creeping around the house and napping every hour or so.
dibnlib: Lovely penguins look toasty and very chatty. Such appealing creatures.
Djoan: Did a double-take when I saw the lion in the Rockies on the Daily Mail page, then read that the guy was visiting some kind of private reserve. Some great shots, but thought a couple looked staged, especially the Siberian tiger, which seemed to come out of nowhere vis a vis the background.
Still a bit of tidy up painting to do, but can't face it today. Am taking a friend out for a birthday lunch, then going to the roses for some R&R! Take care all. Hope whoever is off on adventures has a lovely time and good weather.
read sometime over the last week that research had decided that sea eagles were much more likely to eat other birds than lambs. And what is this with cats and poodles ( why poodles in particular?) must have a look at the article later.
Hey Lindybird: This tree business was interesting: The one-man nonprofit who runs it had contracted with the California Conservation Corps, which employs "at risk" young people who've been in trouble with the law. They were the ones who did the digging and they got paid via that program; they do a lot of work clearning brush in the foothills, tidying trails, etc. So it was a win-win situation all round.
Safe journey to the Space Shuttle Atlantis, which just made a picture perfect, successful launch!!!
