Weekly Chat, Sunday May 9, 2010

Morning/evening all:  Lovely day here.  Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom.  Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting.  Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week.  Off to start dinner; back later!

  • Hi Annette:  Its dibnlib who is meeting OG tomorrow, not me... wish it were me, if they are swapping cake!

Funny you should mention the politics, as I've just come on to add a little poetry about their conference in the No. 10 Garden today, where someone was heard to say "it's just like one of those outdoor weddings..."

The bride and groom looked nervous,

Too shy to be holding hands -

They walked out into the garden bright

And spoke of all their plans.

The groom spoke first, in front of all

He smiled and stood up straight:

He spoke of new beginnings, and of

    Things which couldn't wait

Such as sorting out a Budget, and

Eating from one plate - or

    Of sharing cars on journeys,

    To keep the planet safe.

    They joked and laughed together

    In front of cameras many,

And denied their differences in thought -

    They pretended there wer'nt any

And that all their union would do

    Would bring happiness to All

It was a perfect picture of

    The Pride before the Fall.......

  • Diane:   Have you noticed that the policemen are all getting younger >  : - )))

  • dibnlib You are soooo lucky - I think Dillon must be a canine saint!  Two of my 'girls'are quite good but Tweed is a wuss.

  • On our news today they were asking a Brit reporter how Cameron would do with question time in the House - he mused about how Cameron would respond and then how Clegg might respond given that he'll take Cameron's place when he's out of town or otherwise engaged.     Went to gym this morning, then off on errand with OH, then did some pruning outside. Back to painting tomorrow.

Came home from a food shopping expedition and have been blithering around all morning. No idea what I’ve achieved! I was meant to pack my bag for this weekend’s 2-day bus trip, so I would then find what needed to be washed. We are off up north to Orroroo, Carrieton, Craddock, Kanyaka and Yourambulla Aboriginal Caves, overnight in Quorn, short trip on the Pichi Richi Railway then home. The railway runs heritage train journeys on the oldest remaining section of the famous narrow-gauge old Ghan railway. Lots of history . . . and of course the pit stops for lunch and morning/afternoon coffee & cake. Diet cancelled yet again LOL.

Coming home on bus yesterday woman next to me saw the sign with the current temp 18 C. "No wonder it is so cold", she says. Auntie, stop laughing. The woman was serious.

Interesting about the grey whale off Israel. Next thing they will be popping up in Loch Ness. Hm, maybe that’s where they have been hiding out since the 17/18 century????

Lindybird: My Dad's doctor is considerably younger than I am. That's just not right! LOL I so enjoyed your poem. Wonderful! I read it to my Dad, and he said that you're a "very good writer". He's a man of few words, so that's high praise. LOL!

  • It is scary when one sees the age of people in authority. I'm sure at a younger age I thought I knew everything. Now I know I'm just starting to learn. LOL Another scary thing is these frail-looking girls who drive our buses. That wee thing up there controlling this great long bendy bus through tiny gaps in the traffic! Amazing!

  • Me, too, AQ. The older I get, the more I realize how little I really know about anything.

I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip. I would love the train ride. Will you actually go into the caves to view the art of the aboriginal people? I looked at some pictures. The rock formations of the area are breathtaking.

  • Lindybird: Very good verse - I think Cameron has his work cut out for him, what with the economy and now a pretty determined deputy with such a different philosophy.

AQ; Pichi Richi Railway? Sounds like so much fun!  Have a lovely time.   Talking about frail girls, I hate seeing 16-year-old-or-thereabout lightweights driving these huge SUVs (and often hanging on a cell phone too).  Ugh.

For anyone who cares, Trucker Steve will be in pretty country tomorrow. Missed the Sierras coz he started really early today....

I expect we shall have time to visit the paintings. Probably the more sacred ones are out of bounds. But whether I shall make it rather depends on how far and the terrain. (My arthritic knees.) I shall certainly try. I had to forgo a visit to the Tomb of the Eagles on my my Orkneys trip as it was a long walk and I knew I would delay everyone. The advantage of travelling alone (as I usually do overseas) is that I can stop and rest, take as long as I like and I don't hinder anyone. When (not if) you visit SA, you must include the Flinders Ranges.
