Weekly Chat, Sunday May 9, 2010

Morning/evening all:  Lovely day here.  Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom.  Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting.  Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week.  Off to start dinner; back later!

  • LINDYBIRD.. great news that you are to be Grandparents for the first time and many congrats to the prospective parents.   What an important  part Grandparents play in the lives of their Grandchildren. My Mums parents were very important and had a lot to do with us even though when we were young it was about an 8 1/2 hour car journey from the central belt to Cheshire. Very sadly missed.

  • ALAN   thanks for the link, have managed to get picture 2 but not 1 at the moment, will keep checking . Also loved the pic of feeding the chicks.

LINDYBIRD  forgot to say that your cartoon really made me smile

  • MANY THANKS TO ALL for all your good wishes, you really are a lovely bunch of people.

Glad too that you all enjoyed the cartoon this morning - I have had a lot of cats, and yes, they are definitely very different to dogs!

Annette:   You will heave a big sigh of relief when you finally get to the end of all that painting, not to mention all the preparation beforehand.  Hope it all looks wonderful when its finished.

  • Lindybird have just read your exciting news!  How wonderful for you and many congrats to the parents-to-be.  Hope all goes well - you'll have more excitement to look forward to after the young osps have flown the nest.

  • Thanks patriciat.   We are excited already!

  • Just logged on again after dinner. It seems to be clearing up at LG at the moment although EJ looks a little damp. Radio chaffince and chorus have started their evensong. EJ sitting tight and looking around, could Odin be around and where is supper!!

  • EJ I think trying to dry out herself - poor girl.  Must be ready for a break off the nest so come on Odin and bring supper with you.

  • Thanks for the peregrine info Sue C, it was a general enquiry.  Difficult to know if one is smaller unless you see both together or get used to how they look compared to the surroundings – I would have to be a more regular viewer I think!

Thanks for the food update Annette, you know we all like to hear about food (ie cakes) here. Beautiful cactus flowers, I could never get flowers on mine.

Congrats Lindybird, I bet your poetry pencil is ready to go.  Do son and in-laws live near to you?

Hope you manage to get away Margobird, you have been so looking forward to it.

    Terry in Cumbria

  • OH has mowed, so we are tidy!  I have done important things like PC back-ups and baked cake for LG team!  I made a Canada Cake (rich boiled fruit loaf) because that will travel ok – know that from Son-I-L taking them long distance walking.  Sun now shining here after a cloudy spell.  Margobird – is it Tuesday you set off?  I hope you have a great time – and safe trouble-free travel.  Lindybird – such lovely news – congratulations to all concerned!  Do the happy parents-to-be live nearby?  Dibnlib – re cementing the whirlygig: at a garden centre last week we saw one which is like a spirally goat/dog tether, but with a strong hollow spike down the middle to hold the whirlygig pole.  Ours is cemented, and one time we did it by moving the concrete lump from one garden to the next!  Volcano cameras are a bit variable; first one sometimes takes a very long time to open.  It has been very active today.  Yes, Annette, we are off again this Wednesday for a week – this is the non-celebration of SiL’s birthday, where the ceilidh ended up on the wrong date!  We go partway Wednesday, Thursday call in at LG briefly if there is time, meet up with Dibnlib and her OH for lunch at Simpson’s, then continue north.  If we don’t get to LG because of timing, then Dibnlib could end up with the cake!!  Coming home next week, we shall see Son again.    Sorry no whale counting once again.  Alan – looks like pigeon numbers in Brighton are well reduced!!

Various website updates: Phoebe still has only one hatched; no new video on Lily and Hope today; Steve still waiting for a yes on new truck, if not he has to set off with old one; Volcano still at it – wind apparently now from a northerly direction, so presumably ash drifting over the Atlantic.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
