Morning/evening all: Lovely day here. Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom. Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting. Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week. Off to start dinner; back later!
SueC abd Alan Hope is just gorgeous and it is good to know every day where Lily and Hope are and how they are going. Reading the latest entry it says there has been snow there.

Also thanks for the quote about quals. for PM's job - usual idea of 'you don't have to be mad to work here, but it helps!' I often wonder what HM the Queen thinks about all the various PM's she has to talk to - after all she's been doing it for years and has seen so many of them.

Terry M: Nice that you got to Bassenthwaite, and were able to see the ospreys in residence. We hope to go there one day this summer. If we get up really early, and come back in the evening, we can make a day out to the Lake District although it is quite a long way to go just for the day.
Annette: Sis-in-law's stairs are new as she had the attic converted into two bedrooms, but now there are problems with the structure of it for several reasons; the builders are being awkward about complaints now that as far as they are concerned, the job is finished with, but sis-in-law is not one to lay down and take it, she will argue with them until she gets it sorted, I'm sure. Unfortunately, she now has a really bad head cold and can hardly speak - we were going to visit her today & offer some support but have stayed away as we don't fancy her ailment. Didn't go to have our walk today, but hope to go tomorrow.

As of now Lindybird Marco Polo Airport in Venice has not been shut but as you can guess keeping everything crossed and checking on the internet all the time. Did some packing tonight in between watching the cams but I do wish Odin would come in and give EJ a break before she settles down for the night, but it is not looking promising at the moment,. She is going to be very cold by morning as temperatures very low tonight and Sandy said snow showers over the next couple of days.
Evening all. Have only been paying fleeting visits today. Margobird Hope the ash cloud moves in time for you to get to Venice - once you're there, who cares - you can just stay and enjoy it until the ash cloud moves away! Our Nethy Bridge landlords, who live further south in Scotland, were heading for Australia a couple of weeks ago - got as far as London and then had to admit defeat. How upsetting would tha be?
Sister and B-i-L are heading for Nethy next weekend in fairly sad circumstances. Their older dog had to be put to sleep yesterday because of an aggressive cancer. She was a labrador, nearly 11 and very much loved. They have another who is 5 and a half - I kept her occupied while Cassie was being euthanised but I think she knew when the actual deed was done. How do they know these things? We're all very sad.

patriciat so sad about your Sister and BiL's Labrador being put to sleep, I am quite sure the other Labrador knew exactly what had happened. Dln't know how the know but I think all animals do when a friend disappears. I really feel for you all.
On the Venice front we feel as long as we can get there we will be happy. If we have to stay longer I think we could manage. As you say it must have been awful not to be able to travel to Australia.
Margo, just stay optimistic. It is too soon to start worrying. The ironing was the important thing and you have finished that so you are ready to go.
patriciat, so sorry to hear about your Sister's dog. I agree, the younger dog will have known what was happening. Hope they all enjoy their holiday.
SueC, We have been to Chichester. The screen was excellent and I saw both the adult birds through the binoculars and saw the male bringing in a meal. I also managed a visit to Pulborough Brook. Have you been to Brighton ? I was thinking of trying to see the nest there.
There has been much more chat on here today, so I will try and catch up tomorrow. A very belated Happy Mother's Day to our Australian and American Mums.
