Morning/evening all: Lovely day here. Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom. Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting. Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week. Off to start dinner; back later!
Alan: Tracy Island and the String party.....Brilliant!

Coffee break time again! Lindybird – sorry you have not been feeling well – take care - enjoy your walk – but don’t overdo it. We had a few drops of unexpected rain just after my morning post, but it’s been dry since and still warm. General gardening tasks so far, like putting copper tape round Hosta pots to deter slugs. jsb – think we can top your feeding this morning we had a Raven! Sometimes see them around, but this one actually fed from the ground tray - causing the disappearance of regulars (but they’ve all been back). Sandy – those peregrine chicks are growing fast – will end up a lot bigger than their siblings, if the other eggs do hatch. Alan – lovely picture of the Grebes at their nest. Margobird – I hope you do get away – a lot can change in a few days with the volcanic ash. Our neighbours have driven down to Manchester to fly to Corfu tomorrow morning – reminds me of suggesting friends should not go there when Greece had troubles some years back, they did go and there was serious violence (they were O K) so I kept my mouth shut this time. Best wishes to all the Mums in Aus and USA (although I guess Aussie Mums are all in bed by now): I hope Annette is enjoying her breakfast with Daughter.
OH gone outside to start scarifying the grass – better go and do something – pondering whether to sow some carrot seeds, or is it too soon? Got a few in the cold frame … think I’ll hedge my bets and do just a short row, then some more after we’ve been away.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Thanks original goldfinch will think postive as things seem to be changing all the time.
Margobird
Wonderful close up of Phoebe in Orange county - first egg hatched today.

AQ altercation with carer, sounds promising for MIL. That is a grand age to reach. A neighbour of my Grandparents made it to 95 and was still working in his auction room, till he took a fall and ended up in hospital. Not sure of the details but he died very shortly after that. It was nice to know though that George was good both physically and mentally till his death
Yet another feed for the Brighton peregrines.
Thanks original goldfinch and Alah for news about Phoebe's first hatch. So hope she has more success this time.
Read a comment by the governor of the bank of England which went something like this. Whoever gets into power will regret it soon afterwards. I think that the qualifications to be PM must be 1. supreme arrogance 2. a massive ego, 3 some form of mental disorder. I wouldn't like to be the Queen either though she does not have the choice so does not need the above qualifications.
