Weekly Chat, Sunday May 9, 2010

Morning/evening all:  Lovely day here.  Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom.  Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting.  Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week.  Off to start dinner; back later!

  • Hey, Annette, I'm here too.  Sorting photos for an exhibition we're haveing if a few weeks.  BEAUTIFUL autumn day here.

    Smiles, Jan.

  • How God Created Mother - God took the fragrance of a flower, The majesty of a tree, The gentleness of morning dew, The calm of a quiet sea, The beauty of a twilight hour, The soul of a starry night, The laughter of the rippling brook, The grace of a bird in flight, Then God fashioned from these things A creation like no other, And when His masterpiece was through, He called it simply . . . MOTHER

Happy Mothers Day to all mothers. At church this morn all mothers were given a wee candle and a card with the above poem.

  • "The Osprey Party tried hard to fly in with all the votes, but after the various members had been accused of feathering their nests in the expenses scandal, whilst fishing for compliments; instead of putting their heads in the sand like ostriches, they decided to wing it and fight beak and claw before their support tailed off. They weren't living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, and knew that in order to save the day, the birds of a feather would have to flock together in an effort to put an end to the muddle. They wern't putting all their eggs in one basket, but knew that to make a good omelette, you have to crack some eggs....."

    Lindybird -

that’s brilliant!!!!! After our recent state election the pollies are at last getting down to business but they only plan to meet 32 days this year. One day of them wasted with pomp and archaic ceremony to open parliament.

We have a beautiful sunny autumn day too, 23 C expected after overnight min of 9 C. No rain. Going to be a quiet day here. Only Dau#2 will visit. Dau#1 & g-son not well (headcolds). M-i-l in hospital, fingers crossed, but she is 93 and frail.

  • Happy Mother's Day AQ and Wattle. For the last few years my daughter and I have gone off to nice brunches together and we'll do that again tomorrow.  Lindybird: Your version of the election is much more fun than the BBCs.  Can't seem to raise the volcano-cam this evening, though it was on earlier....

  • Like OG, Annette, and others, I'm fascinated by the volcano activity this evening. I can no longer get the webcam. I think their server was overwhelmed; too many people trying take a look now. I checked the news; airports are closing and flights are cancelled in some areas due to the expanding ash cloud.

We don't have any ash, but we do have frost warnings for tonight. We had unseasonably hot weather for a while, and now it has decided to return to winter.

Lindybird: Your Osprey Party election coverage was  BRILLIANT!!!      Annette: Loved the Cuckoo Party referrence. LOL

OG: You worked very hard today; hope you get some good rest. I was surprised to learn that you all don't have a written constitution there, which would spell out the protocols for forming a coalition government. Very interesting. re: Trucker Steve. I worry about his old truck catching fire again. He shouldn't have to watch the road and watch for smoke from his truck. Poor guy.

Annette: I hope you have a wonderful brunch with your daughter tomorrow!!! Also, have a great day, AQ, Wattle, Lindybird, OG, and all of the mothers on this site.

  • Oh, AQ, sending healing energy for your mother in law.

  • Oh, one more thing, Annette and Wattle: I also saw the mysterious "UFO" light earlier at the LG nest. Hope EJ didn't talk to the aliens. Stephen Hawking warned that we shouldn't be making contact with ET. LOL

  • Hey Diane:  Just watched Nova, which featured St. Helen's eruptions.  Amazing film, from 2002 I think, of giant slabs of lava - like skyscrapers - thrusting up out of the earth at the rate of 18 feet a day.  Now it's Nature and Kilauea, which apparently generates 200 ft-high water spouts.    Will keep an eye out for Trucker Steve's next news; and Phoebe is still in OC on her two eggs, which is about as much earth-shaking drama as I can stand.

  • Oh good. I was beginning to think it was EJ's guardian angel. At one point it was on the right, then moved across to the left, then back to the right.   I could swear it was a bug on the lens until it went back beyond the nest. (cue spooky music.....)   Daylight now at LG and no evidence of crop circles or mysterious hieroglyphics in the ground around nest, etc....  :-)

  • If EJ and Odin start to chirp that music from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I'm not going to watch the nest cam ever again. LOL!

Yup, Annette, lots of volcano science on TV tonight. Interesting viewing; awesome phenomenon! Did you know that erupting volcanoes build up static electricity and create really wild lightening? I saw photos on Google Images. Fascinating.
