Weekly Chat, Sunday May 2, 2010

HI all: I'm late starting this.  Be sure to check the last two pages of the previous Weekly Chat - some interesting links, news, updates on nest data, photos. I haven't had a chance to read them all but off to do that now.

  • Volcano back in the news, no details, except to say Irish and West Scottish flights may be affected this evening.

Transatlantic OK, that's what they said.

I checked the Volcanocam not long ago, bit of cloud was preventing any view at all.

  • Good Heavens.  They did say that it might erupt more, later, or worse still that the neighbouring biggie would!

  • It was just a brief news item, more details later perhaps.

  • LIZ LFW   Dillon will be 8 on the 15th May.. I will have to get him another cuddly toy I think, he just loves them. When I get him a new one now, I take one of his old ones to the SSPCA. He really is a bit spoiled, but he dos not Know that.     Some people do wear the most inappropriate clothes, don't they. We went to a concert in Murrayfield Stadium a couple of years back, it was bitterly cold and yet some people were in skimpy dresses and high heels. They didn't look so good when they had to be wrapped in tin foil blankets!

  • Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments about Tweed.  He's blotted his coopybook (to use an old expression!) today.  Had to go to the vet for Kennel Cough vaccination - Alan, dibnib and other dog owners will know what's involved - and he didn't like it at all.  Struggled, wriggled, got up on his hind legs, finally had to be muzzled and restrained by the vet while one of the nurses administered the vaccine!  Just a big wuss, I'm afraid.

Lindybird your walk sounds really lovely.

Have heard terrible news about the killing of 10 birds of prey in the Irish Republic.  One is a red kite released in Northern Ireland by the RSPB two years ago, another is a golden eagle and a third is a buzzard.  The news item didn't say what the other 7 were.  I think they said some or all were poisoned.  It makes you sick, doesn't it, that people will deliberately do that to beautiful wild birds.

  • 'Fraid its just not printable what I would like to do with these people if they could be caught themselves.

About the vets visit - Mine just sits there shaking like a leaf in the waiting room, then tries to make a run for it everytime someone comes in through the outer door: this is a dog who makes such a loud bark when the postman comes, he frightens half the neighbours!

  • Good evening patriciat  and so sad to read your post about the killing of birds of prey in the Irish Republic.  I cannot and will not understand why people want to poison such glorious birds of prey.  What makes it worse is that they will have endured a long and painful death.  On the odd occasion that these people are caught the punishment does not fit the crime.

  • I've just been reading on an Irish news website about those birds of prey which were killed - 3 red kites, 2 white tailed eagles, 1 golden eagle, 3 buzzards and one peregrine falcon. They were found at various sites throughout Ireland. The article went on to say that a total of 13 white tailed eagles have been found dead in County Kerry  since the project to re-introduce them began in 2007. Absolutely barbaric behaviour.

  • Do hope the baby Hummer survives, Whatever happens, remember you did your best ANNETTE.

I have always had very strange dogs (3 Goldies). In each case they have happily gone to the vet, no matter what happens. Fingal in particular would have gone round twice!!!!

Is anyone else n the same boat as me, in that I still do not have access to the webcam? there is nothing for it but to indulge in a massive sulk!!!!!

Went to Simsons this am for lattes ( ok and a scone and tiffin ) saw a lovely weeping crab apple tree which we just had to have and it was delivered just before I had to go out. Weather permitting (the forecast is not good I think) OH will get it dug in tomorrow. We really have no self control as far as garden centres are concerned.

Went to my voluntary work this pm and found out that one of the paid workers was 18 today. After wishing her Happy Birthday I remarked that she would be able to vote on Thurs. Amy looked at me as if I had two heads!!!! Am I right that in the states it is compulsary? or did I dream that one up. Signing off now so sleep tight folks and good morning to others.

  • LIZ LFW New photo of Dillon as my avatar. OK I really am going now
