Weekly Chat, Sunday May 2, 2010

HI all: I'm late starting this.  Be sure to check the last two pages of the previous Weekly Chat - some interesting links, news, updates on nest data, photos. I haven't had a chance to read them all but off to do that now.

  • OG - Love your twisted willow. I went Googling and discovered their twisty branches. (I've always liked the look of deciduous trees when they are leafless.) Hm, violets. I planted some in a corner of our back garden. They have now spread all over, through the lawn, under shrubs, like a green carpet. Only the original clump manages to flower.

Cirrus - What about people who don't have passports? Can they provide photo-ID such as driver's licence?

We are being bombarded with adverts for Mother's Day (this Sunday). Buy your mother slippers . . . or a diamond ring (!!!!) . . . or a sound system . . . or . . . chocolates . . . or a sheets set . . . or surprise Mum with a lamb roast . . . The hardware DIY stores are keeping a low profile. LOL. Winter can't be far - yesterday's temps were 11 to 17 C with people at bus stop moaning about the cold !!! The promised 5 days of showers shrank to one day.

  • Hi, all.

OG: Beautiful photo of violets, one of my very favorite flowers.

For those who like to watch split screen (LG + another):

The Indianapolis peregrine falcons are walking around now, and they are very sweet.

Big Rig Steve, the trucker, is headed to Salt Lake City, Utah, through Nebraska and Wyoming. He will probably get a new truck in Utah, but he's not sure that his company will allow him to keep TK, the Truck Kat, with him in the new truck. They have a new "no animal" policy, but since he was hired before the new rule, he might get to keep her.

Lots of elephants are returning to Pete's Pond, because the water level is rising. But, periodically, a plague of bugs descends on the pond -- literally a plague. Millions and millions of the bugs completely fill the air; it's an awesome sight.

Hope everyone has a nice Thursday.

Aren't regulations ridiculous. I would imagine having a companion along would keep him alert.

  • AQ: We are having storms about every day; I'll try to turn one of them toward you. :-) Violets have spread throughout our yard, but ours all bloom in the spring. I think you're right about Trucker Steve's cat. I hope he doesn't have to send her to live with his mother.

  • I get frustrated watching the weather reports each evening. They show Aussieland with lttle cloud or rain icons over the other capitals around the edge, but not for us in the middle. Even when they predict "showers" they are not all over. It can rain in the city centre or some suburbs but others miss out.

  • My friend sent me the following (with animated cartoons):-   I don't do housework because I love birds and I don’t want one to run into a clean window and get hurt.   I don’t wax floors because I am terrified a guest will slip and get hurt then I’ll feel terrible (plus they may sue me.)   I don’t mind the dust bunnies because they are very good company, I have named most of them, and they agree with everything I say.   I don’t disturb cobwebs because I want every creature to have a home of their own.   I don’t spring clean because I love all the seasons and don’t want the others to get jealous.   I don’t pull weeds in the garden because I don’t want to get in God’s way, He is an excellent designer.   I don’t put things away because my kids will never be able to find them again.   I don’t do gourmet meals when I entertain because I don’t want my guests to stress out over what to make when they invite me over for dinner.   I don’t iron because I choose to believe them when they say "Permanent Press".   I don’t stress much on anything because "A Type" personalities die young and I want to stick around and become a wrinkled crusty ol’ woman!! . . . Remember a clean house is a sign of broken computer.

  • AQ:  We DID manage to get 16 ml the day before yesterday, and another 2 ml yesterday, with black clouds overhead at the moment.  Unfortunately, we're gettng a cold southerly with it, so there's not much chance of this lot blowing over your way!  I'll email you as soon as I can re recent family search developments - very good and very close to you!!!!!  ;-))

    Smiles, Jan.

  • Wattle - glad you are making progress with FH. Close? Hey, it's a small world.

  • Hallo all: Will probably miss responding to some posts, but do appreciate all the updates and pretty/cute photos of flowers and chicks!  Busy day today - not hard, just busy.

AQ: This Sunday is Mother's Day here - my daughter and I are going off to brunch together to the dining room at the Alisal Ranch where we went two years ago. Sat on the patio and enjoyed the sunshine and the surrounding hils and decided to go back this year.  A clean house a sign of a broken computer (or a busy bird nest!)  :-)

Diane: What!? No TK for Trucker Steve? Not acceptable at all - she is his traveling buddy. He'll have to smuggle her on board.  Boo to corporate rules (but as I always say, rules were made to be broken).

Sad to relate, but my little hummingbird didn't survive. It died Monday morning.  :-(    The lady at the center also told me they'd just lost a Red-Tailed Hawk chick that died soon after being brought in - it had fallen out of its nest.  :-(

    Take care all.

  • Morning All.  Dry but cloudy here today.  Not cold, anyway, so no excuse for folks to not get themselves down to the Polling stations, although if I were a betting person, I would bet on this being the lowest turnout ever.

Lots of varied posts from the Night Shift - comments on the housework dilemma very funny! (thanks, AQ)
