Weekly Chat, Sunday April 25, 2010

Hi all: Getting a late start here today. Been busy in the garden all day and now working on getting some of the glue out of the corners of the panes in the French door, so have back to computer.

Previous Weekly Chat's last page included long chatty posts from Lindybird and OG, a link from Djoan to the BOT Barn Owls, which have their first egg, and a colorful greeting from Diane to AQ who's having a birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQ!  :-)

  • Morning/afternoon all:

OG: Yes, a good evening out - was supposed to be "book club" night with friends, but some of us hadn't seen each other for so long we had a lot of family catching up to do before we got to "The Summer Book" which everybody liked. Then tea and raspberry tart with dishes of little chocolate treats to bolster us up for the drive home.   Oh my, is the male at Caerlaverock into cross-dressing or has he realized how valuable plastic might be on rainy days?

Lindybird: An ironing board?! Seriously?  Nearly fell off the couch laughing. Is this some ploy to have him take over that deadly chore?  :-))    Ha!  my daughter turns 50 this year, which means I was minus 15 when I had her.

Tiger: Gary posted a link to http://www.tigerfast.co.uk/21staprillochofthelowes.html on the Daily Update with some wonderful photos of that and other travels. Is that you?

Alan: Hanging out laundry "in a manly way"?  :-)))    I see a Clint Eastwood stance somewhere in that scenario.

Have some French door work to do today before going to the gym, but am also glued to the telly where members of the Senate Government Affairs Sub-committee on Investigations is grilling Goldman Sachs execs on their financial strategies. Odd, but many of them are having trouble understanding questions posed in plain English and are also suffering from memory problems.....

  • Annette:   The ironing board was a coincidence:  he lives alone now and has been using one from his student days until it has fallen apart. The day he irons his T shirts I shall fall down with shock:  he only irons his best trousers and shirts for work, & the curtains in the house are held up by age & dirt alone. Nice to hear you enjoyed your Book Club meeting- what a good idea to have goodies to eat, to help things along, very civilised.   ; - )

EDIT:     ps. we also had MP's here who were suffering strongly from memory problems re their expenses claims recently...  its a very common failing!

new RSPB reserve coming to Solway coast - Wigtown Bay area - see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/8644643.stm

OG: It's always good news that another reserve is being created, and what a great name - The Crook of Baldoon!

  • Oh funny. One of the senators at the Goldman Sachs hearings compared Wall Street to Las Vegas, at which point the Senator from Nevada took gentle exception, saying that in Las Vegas, people know that the odds are stacked against them.

  • Hi Annette and what a busy life you lead and you still have time to do the night shift for us in the UK..  Glad you enjoyed your night out. and the raspberry tarts sound good.

I can just imagine Alan in a Clint Eastwood stance, what a thought.

The male at Caerlaverock seems to have some sort of obsession with plastic, bit of a worry really.  Apprently he did the same last year.

Lady of the Loch has had 2 fish today which is good as  it has been cold and drizzly today.  Y7 seems to be building a fortress now and has started to bring in bits of bark.  All it needs now is a roof to protect her from the rain.

    Have a good day.

  • Change over and I am not sure if Odin came in with a fish, doing a bit of housework whilst settling down on the eggs.  Could do with a male like in my home.

  • I received my copy of 'Birds' Magazine today & note that the 'Springwatch' programme is to resume on 31st May, (until 17th June)  in case you havn't seen the thread on this Forum about the programme.

  • Annette  No that is not me. :)

BTW someone was asking if we see the ISS in Britain. Well a new series of evening sightings start on Thursday night (29th April).

Thanks Lindybird, got mine today but haven't had  chance to look at it yet.  To busy watching ospreys.  The dates that it is on means I won't miss any of it.  Going to Venice for a few days in middle of May so I am going to miss the ospreys but at least there shouldn't be a hatching until well after I come back.  What a stupid time to pick to go away I am thinking.  Only joking we should have gone a couple of years ago but my Dad died 2 days before we left so it had to be cancelled.
