  • Keith you are very lucky to live in such a great place. I have spent many happy times in Symonds Yat and will try and get back again one day.

  • Harelady:  We had this problem some years ago with a rat run across the bottom of our garden and had to call the professionals – they came free then! All had to be covered to prevent pets feeding on the bait. Nowadays it is fingers crossed as we have food in the hedgehog feeding station on the ground. Last year we had one rat visit and this year no rats just a lot of hedgehog activity, three hours worth last night.

Thanks Keith. I have only ever seen one - but the chap in the local shop said they breed so fast there could be a lot more - I can see 3-4 holes that they run into.

  • That means you probably have a nest - our problem

  • KeithG; Not sure it's politically correct anymore, but we used to have something here (in California) called Mexican time.

  • We killed one adult rat at first:  after a few months we killed two more, younger looking ones.  We think our neighbours may have put down poison and perhaps got rid of another one or two ~  but its a subject no-one likes to talk about!  We never mentioned it to neighbour on the other side, in case she was frightened by the news that there were any.

Glad that things are going ahead for you, Keith.  Sounds very sensible, and how lucky you are to have found a good handyman!

Heather:   Loved your descriptions of your trip, and glad you got home safe even though tired.  I would just love to see all those tulips!

Wendy:  You are already gone now,but I hope you have a good holiday, its such a beautiful place.

Margo:  So pleased that the latest treatment has left you feeling stronger.  Nice to see you posting again, its very frustrating when you have internet problems.

  • OG:  Hope you managed to catch the dishwasher repair man on his travels!  Its very frustrating these days, finding anyone who will come at all, let alone at the appointed time.

Annette:  Glad you enjoyed the latest poem, and that you might send it on ~  I hope it makes them smile, too! (I did think that "Savannah & Me" should have been "Savannah & I"  to be correct, but it sounds wrong coming from young lips.)

My OH has been dashing around, golfing, going to the Allotment, taking B. to the Vets for checkup (all OK).  Now he is tired!!  I wonder if anyone else knows a man in his early 70's who climbs onto the roof of his bungalow to stand and shovel off the moss clinging to the tiles......

  • Ha ha LINDY! I have an 85 year old here who thinks that he is about 50 and still goes up ladders and into the top of our fruit trees to prune them.Thankfully he is finally realising that he can't do what he used to... My nerves are in shreds when he has that certain look on his face!

A quiet day here. Sorry to read about the rats, HARELADY and KEITH. Hope that you can get rid of them. I've never seen any here (yet).

Hope that you enjoyed your lunch, BRENDA. I look forward to hearing about it!

Youngest family popped in this afternoon, the children were off school, an in service training day for teaching staff. Youngest son in law quite sure that he will not escape the next round of oil industry job cuts, he will hear by about 16th June.

  • Just wanted to say - it's good to see LINDY back - and pleased Bonnie is doing well.

Can't say more this evening - had a good day including lunch.  Just finished dinner and visitors turned up on their way home to Yorkshire from flat hunting in Glasgow - details another day.

Got a very full day tomorrow - up early to set out to visit to artisan cheesemaker in the morning, with lunch included, then a brief call in one of the shops in Gatehouse of Fleet, home to grab a snack and then all three of us out to an evening concert at Loch Arthur - first of a few bookings during the D&G Arts Festival!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Annette: Sounds VERY familiar to me! I wonder which is longer!?
