I think I will start MAY, 2016 quite simply with a current snippet of the LOCH GARTEN NEST with EJ quietly incubating her three eggs.
Evening, All. June, Wonderful that you have an Osprey nest in Columbus. Will you go to see it? Maybe persuade a few friends to go along to share the driving?
Kind regards, Ann
Evening all. I too have given up on egg #2 but if its only to be one chick, then what matters is that he/ she is healthy and being a lone chick it will have plenty of food :)
That is pretty much what I was thinking Willow. Things would have to be pretty bad for Odin and EJ to not have plenty for only one.
From reading DU it seems we now have TWO bobbleheads. They show pictures which tell me nothing. Unless I see live cam & then only when they move can I distinguish a chick from an egg or shell pieces.
I've been watching LG cam off and on for more that two hours but have only seen EJ pretty well settled on her nest.
I just tuned in to the nest in time to see both babes. I watched EJ feed the bigger one, while the little one looked on trying to get in position for a bite. Then EJ moved around toward the front - to feed the little one I thought, but no, she settled in. Well, I hoped, maybe she fed the little one first, before I was watching.
unfortunately on DU Moffer states clearly "the little one was not fed"
Good evening all. June brilliant news of second bobblehead at LG! I think a fish has been delivered to the nest. I think it must be # 3 that hatched. Im so pleased and hope they grow into strong and healthy ospreys :) I just love their back stripes and funny stubby tails (we used to call chicken tails parsons noses!)
June, You have probably worked out by now that the little chick at LG WAS fed a bit yesterday, though it was not fed during one of the 'feeds', the one you mentioned as noted by Moffer. The little Osprey is so little that it does not require very much food at any one time, though it will eventually catch up with its bigger sibling. SheilaFE posted at about 11.30am today that EJ fed both chicks about then. I'm off now to read the previous posts from earlier today to see whether there was an earlier feed or not.
I like this snippit of EJ as it shows off her white necklace so nicely.
I am always surprised when it is just bedtime here and I log in for one last look at the nest and find broad daylight. OK. I know 12 midnight here is 5 am in Scotland and that morning comes early for you in the summer -- but I'm still taken by surprise!!
Willow, I'm happy to see your enthusiasm and Ann, thanks for the info. That is the only way I can keep up, for each of us to do all the reporting we can.
