A new month and lots to look forward to as we eagerly await these precious eggs which Maya and Blue 33(11) have devotedly protected, hatch!
For anyone new and just starting to watch the Rutland Manton Bay Webcam, here is a brief summary of the 2016 season so far:
The resident female, Maya returned 21 March. Her mate Blue 33(11) returned 27 March. Maya has laid three eggs, #1 on 4 April, #2 on 7 April and #3 on 10 April. Maya and 33(11) are currently sharing incubating duties and we should see a hatch around the second week in May.
Happy viewing
The chick at Loch Garten hatched before these 3 ones, but it's still alone... how odd (being fed now).

I wonder if Rutland is the odd one, NOC? Egg #1 was very late hatching, apparently, so it's not surprising that #2 hatched on the same day... I've forgotten when #3 was due to appear... ah, today?

Got the streams downloading but as soon as Maya got up they went down >:( (Having broken up somewhat?)

Yes #1 was late if counting 37 days from laying to hatch but Maya didn't start incubating it from when it was laid. She left it for quite a time during the night and even during the day so this must have had an affect so I am not so sure now that #1 was late ????
Unbeknownst to me I had the main nest downloading in duplicate, and the second one kept going but in slide-show form.
Maya soon returned and was joined by Blue33, intruder alert, he flew:
Thank you, KAREN, from one who was not following diligently ;-)
Notes on osprey egg hatching again
Tiger Signature
After #1 was laid, a few were concerned about it being left / chilled and Kayleigh addressed this in her blog "Your fish is on my list" advising hatching could be delayed. I found it a really interesting blog and why I don't really think #1 was late more planned by Maya.
And thanks Tiger for the link to the notes on osprey egg hatching - interesting read
Thanks Tiger. Maya's first clutch also hatched late and close together. I believe the differences in hatching times are partly down to egg size - according to one of the blogs (I think Loch of Lowes) the later eggs in a clutch are smaller.
The first egg of EJ's second clutch was her fifth in the season and may have been too small to be viable. I was astonished when Mrs G hatched her 6th and 7th eggs last year. Possibly she tends to lay larger eggs. Do you have the data for them?
