Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 17 April 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON (on Friday).

Last week's Chat thread is here.

I meant to tell you all this story.

Early last week, during the very high winds, I had to go north for groceries. I was unloading my shopping and struggling to walk in the gales. I saw R.T. Hawk and his pale mate (the red-tailed hawk pair) riding the thermals together.

R.T. started to glide over the creek toward town, and then he saw me watching him. He circled all the way back and flew right toward me. He turned into the wind and pumped his wings, so that he was hovering in one place right above me. He looked at me in the eyes for several seconds! Then he turned and flew on his way. I don't know what made him fly over to see me.

I haven't seen any hawk juveniles around this year.

Everyone have a wonderful week!

  • Evening all:  Much better, prettier and more relaxed drive today, ending with lovely get together with family.  Now all tucked up in respective beds once again. From now on, days will be much more less busy.

Diane: I only just saw the fab photo of the horses.

Lindybird: That's a beautiful whale skeleton "installation."

Take care all and have a good week.

  • Good Morning. Cloudy here.

Great that you had another reasonable journey, Annette, and a lovely family get together. Hope you're all taking lots of photos to record your special times together!

Wendy -  Glad that Daisy is doing well.

Diane -  In general, I much prefer wildlife and domestic animals, to people, LOL!!

  • Our Eldest has just left, after showing us new photos on his phone of little Amber enjoying herself in the garden. Do wish we lived nearer!!

More tidying up to do today, and rooting out old stuff with possible consignment to charity shop.

Edit:  Glad folks have enjoyed seeing the whale skeleton:  I loved the way they had put her right next to the sea, where she belonged. I kept going back to stare at her, as she was so pure and elegant. I forgot to make a note of her size, but I seem to remember that she was not fully grown. There were a lot more painted fish than I've shown, I wish I'd taken more pics of them, now. Each one had been decorated by a different artist and signed - a lovely idea.

  • Good morning, all.  Two eggs at Dyfi now!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Monty will need to shatter his previous records for catching fish in a season!!

  • Hello all -

Everything went well with Amy's appointment this morning. It wasn't the regular consultation with the Diabetes team, but an eye check, for diabetic retinopathy. Because Amy has what she calls a left 'squint eye' the normal camera scan of her retinas isn't easy. So this morning, drops instilled and she saw a doc who used a microscope to look. All is OK, she is young, after all. Anyhow, for her yearly tests, that is the preferred option. I wasn't sure whether to march in with her but left it up to her. She invited me to accompany her ;-))

It is really cold here again today and OH has a sore back (probably from bending and fence painting etc)

I have managed to get something to wear for the Christening. Just a jacket and trousers. I am really not a Dress Person. Got the jacket in Monsoon. OH approves, he usually thinks that my choices are rather dull, LOL !

  • Good that all went well with Amy, Heather. It's really cold here again - it's the wind which cuts through you, not so bad indoors. Good too, that you managed to get your outfit - it sounds really sensible to me, and you'll probably get some use out of them afterwards as separate items. What colour did you get, if it's not "dull" ? !! ;-)

  • LINDY - The jacket is mixed colours, black but with bright woven colours through it. It will be a useful addition to my (now depleted!)wardrobe. We don't socialise a lot but there are things like the Probus Christmas lunch:-)

I just looked on the Monsoon website, the jacket is called ENYA. I will wear it with black trousers and a black camisole or similar. Need to rake through what remains of my clothes!
  • Just looked at the jacket, Heather - what a good choice.  It looks very versatile, you can wear black with it for "smart" occasions, or a red camisole or coloured trousers for a more relaxed look. Thumbs up from me!!

I'm trying to be strong and throw out some blouses/tops which I really like, but never seem to wear.....
