Keith and Ann closed last month with some lovely chat and osprey news. It is this kind of coverage that we must have if The Gabfest is to be able to continue.
The Gabfest does have a purpose - a reason for being. That purpose is to educate about wildlife in general and ospreys in particular. We do that by following the osprey we care about with pictures and narrative, and by entertaining ourselves with other topics of interest to us. If we are interested others probably will be also. They will thus be drawn to our site where they will get to know the osprey we love.
Pictures are not necessary to make an interesting post. I was hooked before I ever saw a cam simply by reading the entries on The Main Blog. They did not use pictures then. Through the years many Gabbers have added to our thread with simple observations and comments.. The posts of one Gabber in particular are greatly missed. SUGAR'S early morning observations of the Loch Garten nest were a joy to read.
It is to be hoped that we can have many reports, comments and observations this summer, both with and without pictures, as we enjoy the antics of our favorite osprey.
Ann, do you know what is happening at that nest? If it is not already occupied I do hope some intruders will mate up and make a nice home there.
Sorry, June, I do not know what is happening on Blue XD's old nest, but I hope one of this Forum's Osprey experts or the LG or some other blog will eventually let us know. Unfortunately, many nests need to remain outside the public domain for fairly obvious reasons, so only time will tell if we will eventually be enlightened. Having said that, it may be that there already IS news on one of the Osprey websites, but I replied to you before attempting to look for more information! Keith, for instance, may know something.
Kind regards, Ann
LOL ANN, Keith ALWAYS knows something, especially about ospreys and may even have current info about this particular nest. If he does I am sure he will share it with us sooner or later if he reads these posts
As for me, I just do not have time or interest to study every thread here on the forum and every blog on the internet.
One of he original purposes of The Gabfest was to have one thread where anyone could discuss any and every osprey that came to our attention without having to hop from one thread to another. In other words if you did not want to be a thread-hopper come to The Gabfest.
We do have news from Facebook. about DAI DOT, another osprey of interest, especially to Willow and myself Here is his picture, now to go back and find the news. :) May have to do that later as I am running short on time.
Sadly, the news about DaiDot is not good. If you are interested in this bird, this link leads to the full article. There are several paragraphs preceding the one I pictured. If the link isn't active, just copy and paste.
Very droll, June; yes, Keith knows a lot of things! Just as well that someone does--I, for one, am grateful!
LOL again, Ann. Yes, you and me, too!!
SNOW at Loch Garten AGAIN. I checked in just a short time ago and all seemed clear. Now one last peek before I turn in and the snow is really coming down. EJ is almost covered.
The snow has stopped. The clouds are thin enough for the morning sun to shine through and reflect on the snow in the nest. What a difference 15 minutes can make.
