Keith and Ann closed last month with some lovely chat and osprey news. It is this kind of coverage that we must have if The Gabfest is to be able to continue.
The Gabfest does have a purpose - a reason for being. That purpose is to educate about wildlife in general and ospreys in particular. We do that by following the osprey we care about with pictures and narrative, and by entertaining ourselves with other topics of interest to us. If we are interested others probably will be also. They will thus be drawn to our site where they will get to know the osprey we love.
Pictures are not necessary to make an interesting post. I was hooked before I ever saw a cam simply by reading the entries on The Main Blog. They did not use pictures then. Through the years many Gabbers have added to our thread with simple observations and comments.. The posts of one Gabber in particular are greatly missed. SUGAR'S early morning observations of the Loch Garten nest were a joy to read.
It is to be hoped that we can have many reports, comments and observations this summer, both with and without pictures, as we enjoy the antics of our favorite osprey.
I am also interested in seeing what Kielders UV will do this year. He doesnt seem to be in any hurry to head North!
What is it ( a burning question) that makes some nests have a good return rate and others not? I dont believe its in the genes. Why have none (as far as we know) of Loch Gartens chicks never been seen again also I believe none of Dyfis chicks have ever been sighted. What became of Gwynant. Yet Rutland have a fairly good return rate.
Nitelite is still on, but the new day already is dawning. EJ sits quietly on her nest.
May I take time and also great joy to offer congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen on the happy occasion of her 90th birthday.
QUEEN ELIZABETH is #1 on my Most Admired People list. She was my Fairy Tale Princess. I followed her marriage, her coronation and still enjoy following her activities today. I certainly wish her a lovely birthday and many more active years in public service.
Keith, I see your pictures are British postage stamps. This will be a lovely addition to your collection. I expect you are thrilled to have them.
Exceptional clear blue skies flying in from Nantes and touching the South Coast. I mapped it and suspect this is either Folkestone area or maybe a bit further at Margate.
58Willow is down there somewhere so she may be able to help me.
It was then a left turn follow the Thames to land at London City.
This is how the osprey recognises it from similar heights. You could see the English coast very clearly before leaving the French Coast.
Well back out Sunday to Northern coast of Spain not far from Urdaibi - Maybe worth a visit.
Love your pictures, Keith.
Good evening all. I also wish the Queen A Happy 90th Birthday. Love your stamps too.
You have captured some lovely photos of the coast and of London. That does look like Folkestone and if it is I live about 9 miles to the right of your photo! In your arial view of London you can see Waterloo Station! That reptile looking thing! I did my first initial training there when I first joined the Railway 25 years ago LOL!
You can see clearly Charing Cross Station over Hungerford Bridge, and the South Bank. I think that big tower Block is the Huge Shell Building that you may know, Keith!
That is how probably 30(05) and White 14 saw the coast when they arrived :)
From Facebook. This pessimist takes no joy in being right. In this case I would dearly love to be wrong.
